MST3K and talk radio...
I was watching the "Samson vs The Vampire Women" episode of MST3K; these vampires had just drained some guys blood, and were about to throw his body into a sacrificial fire. Tom Servo says "Man, can you imagine the apocalyptic grease fire if they threw Rush Limbaugh in there?" :D

2. In "Mighty Jack," they do a recurring bit concerning Rush Limbaugh...
Whenever someone turns on a radio, Tom Servo does a Limbaugh impression, talking about "welfare cheats" and so on. Brilliant.

Too bad Mike Nelson's a fundie conservative, though.....(sigh). Why must all my heroes have feet of clay?

4. I have all the Comedy Central episodes but only a few Sci-Fi eps...
Yes, he's a fundie. he gave some interview to a fan website where he talks about how much he hates "secularism" and other niceties.....give me a few minutes and I'll dredge it up via google.....

5. yes, he is very conservative.
somebody posted excerpts from an interview Nelson did with some rag....he chanted a lot of Limbaughesque slogans. i thought it was a joke at first, but no....Joel Hodgson is much funnier in my book.

Joel: "How much keefe is in this movie?"
Servo: "Miles O'Keefe."

6. Okay, here's but one interview where Mike outs himself as a pud:
http://tom-servo.home.mindspring.com/special-events_interview_mike-nelson-2-main.html

There's another one where he talks about liking Mark Steyn and other conservative pundits.....the worst thing about that one is his line about how "Democrats are the silly party, and republicans are the serious party, and I want a serious America..." This from MST 3K's head writer!

8. It really bummed me out, too....
MST 3K was the best show ever on TV....I have every episode I could find on tape, even traded for some over the internet....then I found out that Nelson was a fundie. NO!!!!! I was actually quite depressed for a few days.

I used to think Mike Nelson was the funniest man alive. Now I think he's the funniest asshole alive.

10. I still think he's funny...and I like Mike better than Joel too.
I prefer the Mike episodes.

I refuse to boycott Mike Nelson's output, because even though his heart fights for the opposing team, he uses his intellect for good. At least he does us the favor of being insanely funny.

13. well, that blows my theory out of the water
that there are no funny republicans.

oh well. it never came through in his work, so I guess there must have been some liberals mitigating him.

12. The important thing is he didn't let that limit or censor the show's humor
I'm pretty certain Kevin Murphy, Trace Beaulieu and Joel were all lefties. And Mike, as head writer, let a lot of RW bashing in there.

17. Yeah, which is why it came as such an unpleasant surprise....
to find about Mike's dark secret....If the show could be said to have any political compass, one would have to say it pointed leftwards; I can't believe that the sketches for "Teenage Caveman," (they take a very animal-rights/anti-hunting stance) or "Rocket Attack USA" (The game show sketch where they take on myths about nuclear war) came from a committed right-wing ideologue.....how refreshing that Mike had the foresight not to infect the show's humor with his political idiocy.

If only more republicans would follow his lead.

21. Just watched MST3K's 'It Conquered the World' last night...
and you are right about RW bashing.

First, a policeman got stung by a mind-control bat. His first words after regaining his senses (added by Servo) were - '...now I get it! Ronald Reagan would make a great President!'.

Later, Peter Graves chastises Lee Van Cleef saying - '...men and women have been herded up and dragged out into the desert and killed for not following the new master..., to which Crow retorts 'yeah, I hate the 700 Club too!'.

Great quips! Great series!

24. That "Who's Afraid of Gamera Turtle" sketch is sheer brilliance....
And of course, the Michael Feinstein sketch at the end is THEE all-time greatest MST sketch. The Tranqs have even sampled it for our last album.
