Some wingers tried to get Bob Dylan to play at Bush's inaugural.
They tried, but Bob didn't show up.

He did play at Clinton's in 1992.

2. I wish he had gone
and played Masters of War with a dedication to Bush and Cheney. Right at the inauguration. That would have been great.

12. Anglophiles! This is a Low... by BLUR......singalong!!
This is a Low, BLUR

And into the sea
Goes pretty england and me
Round the bay of biscay
And back for tea

Hit traffic on the dogger bank
Up the thames to find a taxi rank
Sail on by with the tide
And go to sleep
And the radio says...

Chorus:
’this is a low
But it won’t hurt you.
When you’re alone,
It will be there with you,
Finding ways to stay solo.’

On the tyne, forth and cromarty,
There’s a low in the high forties
And saturdays locked away on the pier
Not fast enough, dear.
And on the malin head,
Blackpool looks blue and red
And the queen, she’s gone round the bend,
Jumped off land’s end.
And the radio says...

Repeat chorus

’this is a low,
But it won’t hurt you.
When you’re alone,
It will be there with you.
This is a low,
But it won’t hurt you.
When you’re alone,
It will be there with you,
Finding ways to stay solo.’

Lot 105

La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la - ha ha
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la - ha ha
La la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la
Eighteen times a week, love
Ha ha ha ha ha!

3. If I were Bob...
I would have accepted, and played Phil Ochs' "Ringing of Revolution" in it's entirety.

4. One problem the Republicans have
Is that when they have inaugurations, or RNC conventions, for that matter, there is a smaller pool of entertainers who are willing to participate. Very few are Republican, though there are a few, like Mandy Moore, who are Democrat, but will perform out of some sense of duty.

On the other hand when Democrats have an inaugural or a DNC Convention they'll have a very large pool of entertainers to choose from. I mean, Fleetwood Mac got back together in 1993 to play at the Clinton inaugural.

7. My comment after the 2000 inauguration
was that things had improved musically. Fleetwood Mac in 1992 and ZZ Top in 2000. A huge step up in my book. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there, very quickly.

6. check it out
www.rightwingbob.com

The guy who runs the site is a thougtful fellow, and he has some good analysis of some of Bob's songs. But I know that Dylan is not a right winger, not even fucking close.

8. Why did they think he would do it?
I could never see Dylan in cohoots with Bush.

10. They just wanted to prove they could "buy" anyone...particularly
an Icon of the Left.

Bush really resents the 60's, and obviously Dylan too.

11. THat's cause he wasn't cool in the 60's.
He isn't cool in the 80's. He likes this decade because this decade is lame enough for him to be cool.
