Is anybody else sinister?
By which I mean left-handed, of course.

My mother stills freaks whenever she sees me chopping anything (slicing bread in particular) or ironing as everything is 'the wrong way around' and she thinks that I will cut myself or burn myself.

1. my daughter is left handed and
she looks at it as being more creative and smarter then the average person. now she will notice everyone who is left handed. its an obsession. jon stewart, dave letterman and countless other creative funny and famous people are left handed.

her dad tried to force her to write with her right hand when she was a baby. he was a freaking republican. so go figure. but i stopped that shit as soon as he tried.

so go with your left hand and be proud!!

4. Nobody ever tried to make be right-handed
There were a few odd things when I played the violin some people wondered why I had it the same way around, a couple of people even asked about playing the piano 'left-handed' (which would involve building an entirely different instrument). I also eat like everybody else with the fork in my left-hand and knife in my right.

I once read that statisticians have observed a correlation between left-handedness, being gay, being dyslexic, and being a creative genius. I'm certainly three of those, and humility prevents me commenting on the last.

12. ...and we die earlier.
So we have THAT going for us.

Some study found that left-handers die of accident at a higher rate than righties, probably because we get mucked up trying to operate right-handed equipment.

I'm mostly left-handed, using my right pretty much only for stringed instruments like guitar, computer mouse and scissors.

6. I left express orders at my 3yo's kindergarten
that I wouldn't accept any attempt at making her use the right hand. She's a proud lefty -- actually the first in both families in a gazillion years. Cool!

3. yes, I posted about this a while ago!
and got a big response. Since then I've heard anecdotal evidence to suggest we are more likely to be murderers, to suffer mental illness and to suffer from allergies. What is proven is that we can think spatially and be creative due to the side of our brain that is dominant. That figures because I need to think in those ways in my profession.

One in ten of us I think is the proportion.

9. Oh yes
and growing up my mother was the same way, always afraid I'd hurt myself, convinced I was clumsy and slow to develop coordination.

But, looking back it was fun to switch the racket from hand to hand and beat my brother at badmitton.

10. I zinged a lefty on this once
A left handed woman I worked with said that when she was in school, the nuns at her Catholic school said that her being left handed was the sign of the Devil.

So, I said, "well, maybe those nuns were on to something with you..."

13. Leftie here...I read the book 'Sinister People' all about being left
handed. They stated that if you are left handed and your mother is also left handed you are not just left handed, you are the mirror brain of the right handed person? So my brain functions exactly opposite to a right handed person. I found this book very interesting and I suggest any leftie read it! :hi:

16. Proud lefty here
Not only are my politics left, but I'm predominantly left-handed as well. It freaks some right-handed people out when I'm shooting my bow because I'm facing them (I'm left-eye dominant too). Luckily my husband had a left-handed aunt, sister and daughter, so he deals with it quite nicely. My mom noticed my handedness early on and asked the pediatrician the best way to deal with nurturing it. His was very practical advice - in order not to pressure me one way or the other as far as choosing which hand to use and let me develop a preference on my own, he told her to put things like utensils and cups in front of me and let me choose which hand to use to grasp them. Mom also told my 1st grade teacher that if she tried to change my writing hand (as the teacher had said she would be happy to do) there would be a law suit from hell filed against her, personally, and the school system. Mom also wrote a letter for my school file that said I was not to be changed. Mom was cool.
