Poll question: Best "Cold War Paranoia" movie
My personal favorite is #1. Anyone notice the new "terrorist paranoia" movies that are out there now?

1. Other - The Thing.
Or The Blob, or most 50's sci-fi.

2. The Manchurian Candidate
Because...the premise is all too plausible.

5. Body Snatchers. It's so obvious.
Not the later 2 versions, but the original black and white one.

The Day the Earth Stood Still isn't a "cold war paranoia" movie. It has a very good message to it. That is a classic "message" movie, and very well done too!

8. The Day the Earth Stood Still....
...does a good job of addressing the xenophobia we had then, of suspecting those who are alien to us of spreading communist propaganda (in addition to the obvious anti-nuclear message it contains.)

10. Which makes it a Take a step back and look at yourself movie...
...as opposed to the "If they come, we're all going to DIIIIIEEEE!" message of the others on your list. The Russians weren't the bad guy in the film, human paranoia was.

7. "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming" best comedy
with a "Cold War Paranoia" theme in it!

Carl Reiner, Brian Keith, Alan Arkin, Theodore Bikel, Jonathan Winters...really funny stuff

Quotes:
"...Remark to this, Whittaker Walt. We must have boat. Even now may be too late. This is your island, I make your responsibility you help us get boat quickly, otherwise there is World War III, and everybody is blaming YOU!"

"...Please, I know everybody on this island is complete and total crazy. But you, Whittaker Walt? You are crazy too?"
