Girl Survives Being Impaled By Metal Rod While Sledding

AKRON, Ohio -- An Ohio girl whose leg was impaled by a four-foot long metal bar while sledding is expected to return home from the hospital Thursday.

Fourteen-year-old Magen Stephens was hurt Saturday while being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle. She says she didn't know she had been hurt until she looked down and saw the inch-thick rod sticking out.

Doctors say they had to use a hacksaw to help remove the pole, which had been attached to a septic tank buried in the snow.

They say the pole just missed hitting the girl's thigh bone and main artery in the leg.

She said she was going to ride behind the four wheeler w/out a sled...ouch..that would have really been messy. They said she is going home today and will be up and walking in a week.
It is amazing that it didn't do more damage.
