Is Britney Spears more popular than the Beatles in the '00s? |
|
Yeah, it's a shame.
But still, "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" and "Toxic" are FAR better songs than the Brothers Gallagher ever came up with.

but it depends on which age group is answering. Britney is trash and fluff, mindless, future guilty pleasures like cheesey 70s songs.

a soft spot for cheesey, guilty pleasures like "Toxic" and "Seasons in the Sun", "I Am Woman", etc. So don't feel bad--no pun intended.

13. No - seriously - take the Beyoncé and Britney out of the mix and those |
|
tracks are really creative. East Indian melodies, creative bass lines, great production work.

The Beatles are tired and old. Plus, Britney doesn't have to resort to making stupid, nonsensical, druggie songs like "I am the Walrus" just because it is the popular thing at the time.

25. I would probably have to have heard a Brittany Spears song |
|
to make a definitive answer, but I haven't.
That probably says something.
I know, of course, who Brittany Spears is and all about her navel and marriages through supermarket tabloid osmosis, but I have no idea what any of her music sounds like.
From what I can tell from my unfortunate knowledge of her, she about sums up what is left of American culture. There's nothing there but an insipid illusion.

but I suspect the Beatles will. My son is enjoying them now, and a lot of their songs sound even better than when I was his age.

38. Let me rephrase your question |
|
In 2045 will Britney Spears be more popular than the Beatles in 2005? I doubt it. I was born long after the Beatles broke up but I doubt the generation after me will listen to her music the way my generation still listens to their music.

42. Well, if you want to rephrase it in the COMPLETELY WRONG way. |
|
Is Britney more popular than the Beatles in the aughts? In other words, in the past five years, who's been all record-selly and stuff? The lads from Liverpool sold some swag, sure. So has Britney.
The Beatles were bigger than Jesus in '66. Is Britney, right now, bigger than the Beatles?
I just love being an iconoclast.

no one will ever remember Britney Spears 10 years from now, especially her music. Only as an historical footnote, and maybe her songs will be on a 'Best of' compilation sold on an infomercial at 3am some night. IMHO.
