1. My sister loves those things
I believe she's tried a lot of their products and likes them very much. The one I tried was certainly better than a Gardenburger.

21. notas gross as Philip Morris getting the profits from on Boca burgers
the flame broiled Gardenbuger is very hamburger tasing. I know some of those Gardenbuger flavours are very unburger-like and gross.

24. I would rather Phillip Morris get profits from Bocas
Than cigarettes.

If a company like RJ Reynolds wants to change and get out of the tobacco biz, I applaud them.

29. even though they use those profits to
encourage kids to smoke, then say they don't;
market cigarettes and tobacco to foreign countries;
and donate heavily to PNAC and cheneybush junta types?

30. Yes they do donate to the PNAC and Cheneybush types
But if you look at tobacco companies who own non-tobacco subsidies, their investment into the tobacco companies is steady, while towards the others it is growing.

Basically, they are trying to get out of the tobacco biz because they know it is a losing game.

33. Philip Morris hired Margaret Thatcher to promote their tobacco
products in Asia soon after she was de-throned. They paid her excessively and she contributed to their earnings. In 2000, they were the top cigarette manufacturer. A couple of Boca burgers isn't gonna put out that flame.

In July, 2001:
"In July, Philip Morris is again in the headlines after a report that it commissioned and delivered to the Czech government said premature deaths from smoking benefited governments because smokers would not live to use healthcare or housing for the elderly."

Fabulous, innovative marketing, that! I don't think they consider it a losing game at all; it's just a game they have to move elsewhere.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

36. Trust me, tobacco use will be nonexsistant in 20 years
I would bet money on this - the marketing just isn't working, and the base is not growing.

The tobacco companies realize this and are going into different products.

25. The chicken is delicious. Even my husband can't tell it from the...
real thing. It is far superior to the burgers, but for some reason it gives me "terminal" indigestion.

I don't eat them because they have eggs. I liked the Health is Wealth ones (although they are a bit dry) but the jerks just reformulated them with eggs. :(

You can crumble them up as you cook them, add some hot sauce, and make a burrito.

8. They're not bad. Try SmartBacon next.
Try a SBLT.

Can't tell the difference.

Also, they sell ground Boca Burgers for use w/ stuff like Manwich or Hamburger Helper. Not bad either.

26. I cooked it on my
George Foreman grill, lol. And then fixed it up like a normal hamburger. It definitely requires sauce of some sort...ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, etc.

28. Just warm them in a pan
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 09:30 PM by LeftyMom
If you're a meat person you're probably cooking them too long. You don't have to cook them to death like a meat burger, as soon as they are warm through they're good to eat, if you keep cooking you get dry, rubbery nastiness.

Edit: and the more "fixins" the better. I like mine with veganaise, bbq sauce, onions and sprouts on toast. Eating out I get them with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions and lettuce.

if you put a lid on it the moisture will stay in. I microwave mine.

19. evil Kraft shite since 2000
and Kraft and Nabisco (triscuit, Oreos) and owned by Philip Morris, which takes the money you give them to finance the peddling of tobacco to foreign countries and children, and to fund the neocons.

May I suggest Gardenburger? Very good, and the flame broiled flavour is very burger-like.

37. I used to eat Boca Burgers until Kraft/Philip Morris bought them.
I started eating them rather than Gardenburgers because they had far less carbs. Not a total vegetarian here, but I'm working on reducing meat at least.

There is a third alternative, at least at the Costco stores here in the Pacific Northwest. I forget the brand name but they're garlic & portabella mushroom flavored burgers and they blow away both Boca's and Gardenburgers. They'e a bit on the greasy side, but I think it's olive oil, so at least that's "good grease'. Not sure if anybody else sells them - haven't seen them yet in any other stores.

BTW, it seems Costco has stopped carrying Boca Burgers locally. Too bad that's not the case with all Phillip Morris products.
