What are your favorite party snacks?
Wings, weenies, those chicken livers w/ bacon around them (what are those called?), puff pastry things, quiches, etc.?

Chips & salsa, chips & dip, veggies & dip?

What else?! I'm throwing a party and I need ideas!

Thanks, friends!

4. I think those are called Angels On Horseback.
Anyway, I like small meatballs in a sauce made of grape jelly and chili sauce (sounds horrible, but it's quite good), or sweet and sour sauce.

Also:

Chili Cheese Pie
Black Bean Salsa Dip
Corn Dip
Mini quiches

If you want any recipes, let me know.

6. Here's the scoop on the party:
It's my sister's divorce party. The party's on a Saturday, about four hours after my plane is supposed to land. But I'm going there a day early as a surprise.

She's broke, so we're sending out Evites that ask everyone to bring a party food. But after I send the Evites, I'm going to send a separate email to everyone but her that says "ignore the part about bringing food." And I'm going to do the shopping on Friday, after my plane lands.

I appreciate the offer of recipes but in this situation, I just need ideas for frozen or ready-prepared things I can find at Trader Joe's.

But thanks for the offer!! I appreciate it so much.

Okay, on second thought, her kids can mix up some black bean salsa dip.... have a recipe for that? :hi:

11. Trader Joe's has this wonderful ready made dip
in their fresh cheese section. It has guacamole, sour cream, beans, salsa, etc. You could get a couple of bowls of that and some of their good nacho chips (the local ones made in Manassas). And you can buy some veggie and fruit platters at the local grocery.

12. Here you go -
Black Bean Salsa Dip

1 can corn, drained
1 can black beans, drained
1/3 c white vinegar
1/3 c oil
1/3 c sugar
1/2 c hot salsa
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/2 red pepper, chopped
chopped onion to taste.

Mix all ingredients and chill. Serve with corn chips or tortilla chips.

If you want to do meatballs anyway, you can buy frozen packaged meatballs and dump them into a crockpot with some bottled sweet 'n' sour sauce (that can also be done with Li'l Smokies).

5. Pickled shrimp
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 10:37 AM by demnan
Place several pounds shrimp in a steamer with water and shake pickling spices and dried red peppers on top - steam gently until pink.

Take a large glass jar and put the shrimp and spices and a little salt in it, fill to top of shrimp with 1 part white distilled vinegar to 2 parts water (you can use some of the steaming water). Place in refridgerator for 2 days.

To serve just fish them out of the jar and pile them on a plate and hand the guests an extra bowl for the shells. You can serve with or without cocktail sauce.

9. Rumaki is the bacon/liver thing (usually with water chestnuts, too)
I like deviled eggs, bruscetta (you can get the topping in a jar, then just spread it on some toast and pop under the broiler for a few minutes), shrimp with cocktail sauce, chocolate-dipped strawberries, stuffed mushrooms...

23. They're delicious - is what they are ...
Little rolls filled with pepperoni - and you can add cheese, sauce, banana peppers, whatever you like. If you'd like, I can give you my recipe, or just buy a bag of frozen rolls, buttermilk biscuits, etc - fill them with pepperoni chunks or slices & bake them according to the package. You will love 'em! We eat them here in WV all the time - but I can never find them anywhere else ...

19. Trader Joe's - great party food place!
They sell a double-cheese log for less than $3.00. They also have salami in a roll. Lots of different cracker selections.

You can buy a brick or two of cream cheese and some mango chutney to pour over one of them (or whatever suits you).

Great guacamole dip there, too.

So many choices. If you are pressed for time - just go to TJ's and load up.
