3000/ Men who consume a moderate (note that word - moderate) amount of alcohol on a regular basis are less liekly to suffer heart attacks and ischemic strokes (that is strokes caused by the blockage of a blood vessel) than men who don't drink. The reduction in risk varied in the studies in the range of 25 to 40 percent.

Thank goodness!!

4. Yays
Can we define 'moderate' by Bush standards which would place it as about 10 bottles of wine per day?

8. It is true... but that same 'process' ie Drano for the Blood stream
ALSO makes the walls of the blood vessels VERY THIN, causing aneurysms. Alcohol will also most definately destroy the lining of the smomach and intestines causing internal bleeding. I now know 2 alcoholics who have died because from internal bleeding in horrific circumstances and essentially bleed to death while in their 40's. The scene left for the survivors is terrible.

ps. I drink too much so I know.

10. This isn't news.
Although many doctors won't suggest people take up drinking, and certain people at high risk shouldn't, moderate alcohol consumption, 1-2 beers, or drinks per day, is healthy for your heart.

There have been multiple studies on this in different societies and with different types of alcohol. Initially this was discovered as the french had much lower rates of heart disease than americans, but the diet is similar or higher in fat -- the reason was the red wine consumed. Further studies determined it was the alcohol itself, not just red wine.

See PubMed for more info.
