The best way to get credit is to put some sort of signature or something IN the art. That way you get credit whether or not he makes an effort.

And when I used to send him cartoons, I'd add a credit line. I actually noticed the credit lines had been Photoshopped out of the cartoons so I gave up sending him toons.
