Whatever happened to "virtual reality?" |
|
Seems it's been years since anyone has done any stories on it.
(I played a "virtual reality" game years ago.)

VR is still around, but just not so amazing any more. I think they've also reached somewhat of a dead end because the heads up displays are limited as long as they use LCD displays and lenses. I did read an article recently about research being done that paints an image directly on the retina with lasers. Seems interesting and somewhat dangerous.
IMO VR wont take off until they bypass the eye completely and paint images directly to the brain. Then the porn industry will get on board. :)

4. It is mainstream tech now |
|
Military uses the hell out of it, there are vid games using it, and it is used in the movie industry all the time.
There is nothing, therefore, "NEW" about it...so it doesn't make as much mainstream news. Gotta go to the tech mags now to see what's up.

5. I remember SNL's skit about "Virtual Reality Books" |
|
Using the goggles to "read", and the glove to "turn" the "pages". It was hilarious.
