Really cool freeper encounter...... |
|
Let me preface this by saying I have a very short trigger when it comes to dealing with customer service personnel at the cable company. Also, last week I made a decision that after having paid Comcast 100 clams a month for years for cable TV and the occasional soft porn, I was going to talk with my dollars and downgrade to the 18 buck plan (and no porn :()
Well I turned in my DVR HD box this morning and came home. I also have Comcaast cable internet. When I got home it wasn't working. I called the number and got Jeff. As I had explained the problem, Jeff was busy diagnosing it. A lull in the conversation ensued. I had been watching Clinton on C-SPAN (he looks old) I made a passing comment something like "Wow Clinton, I remember when we had a preznit who could lead a discussion". Jeff says "what's he lying about?" I totally ignored his comment and answered that he was discussing the weakness of the dollar to the Euro or something like that. Jeff is undeterred, "you know he's lying about it". "Jeff" says I, "we prolly shouldn't discuss politics".
Several tense, quiet minutes pass and Jeff breaks the silence "you know Europe is in the toilet", "sorry Jeff?". "You know that the Euro is in the toilet". "No Jeff it isn't. The Europeans have a different set of challenges than we do, but their structural economies are sound. Further, they are now discussing defense treaties and other multi-national project like this new super-airliner that Airbus just unvieled. But Jeff, let's not talk about politics".
Jeff then reluctantly piped down for another few minutes as he scheduled a repair call. Now my brain got turning and I'm thinking to myself - Jeff's got some balls having this discussion with me. So I said "Jeff, I do have a comment to make about my Comcast account; Jeff, I cut my cable bill from 100 to 18 bucks because I no longer want to subsidize a bought and paid for media. Comcast gives no alternative like WorldLink or FSTV, although bringing those channels to me would be far less costly than paying the whores at Fox. So if you would, Jeff, pass those comments along to your supervisor and have her give me a call if she wants to discuss it."
A few minutes of self-satisfaction were followed by a sheepish freeper confirming my service call. Have a nice day.

I just switched from DirecTV to DISH, and I'm very happy with Free Speech TV. And I get Sirius music through the television now. I also have a Sirius unit for my car, and a home docking unit. Money well spent, I say.

I recently switched from Direct to Dish - at least my money is not going to Murdoch anymore! And the service is top notch. And the quality of picture and sound is top notch! And the variety - and the price for the total package is great - and Free Speech TV and Link! And I get Sirius music channels!

14. I'm shocked he engaged you in discussion......... |

...of that sort, usually any retail or service industry handbook tells you to ignore such conversation.
I know, I worked in a bookstore and had to deal with freepers and paranoids claiming we were a "liberal" company who was hiding books by Coulter and Hannity on purpose while in fact they were clearly displayed in the section they belonged. Had to stop myself from slicing them apart verbally several times.

18. Oh ... I so appreciate the self-control that you exhibited. |
|
My husband had to drag me away from a conservative loudly proclaiming the same thing. I told him that I was proudly a liberal - so I wouldn't know the location of Hannity's books. He blabbed on about '40 million babies.' I asked him how many children he had adopted and how much he had donated to help foster and fos-dopt families through Children's Fund? That shut him up (my husband had to drag me away anyway).
