No Oscar battle for 'Passion' partisans
http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/26/oscar.passion/index.html

Internet Christian soldiers are admitting defeat in their battle to win a best picture Oscar nomination for "The Passion of the Christ" -- but their campaign to influence Hollywood goes on.

Web sites supporting Mel Gibson's movie about Jesus' final hours -- the eighth-highest grossing American film of all time -- failed to convince enough Oscar voters that it deserved a best picture nomination.

The movie did, however, garner nomination nods for musical score, makeup and cinematography.

these people really need to get a life

9. I regard them as crucifixated.
They seem to be perverted by the torture and atrocity of crucifixion - to the point they want to bring it back so they can get hard-ons seeing it done to others.

11. It seemed a bit better than "Crucifetishists" ...
... even though the latter portrays the 'fetish' aspect more explicitly. It really does seem prurient to me.

4. Um, maybe the film just wasn't good enough to get a nod?
No, they'd never think of that...

And where's the outrage over Hotel Rwanda not getting a Best Picture nod?

but the logic of oscar nominees and winners stopped making sense to me years ago...I've got my own mental list of hundreds of actors/films deserving of regocnition in past years...

5. the passion play is supposed to be experienced in a church
and the congregation participates. they are to respond to pontious pilate, "give us barabbas instead." in a three hour endurance mass that is normally accompanied by a self-guided tour through the 'stations of the cross.' none of this is made more poignant or legitimate in a movie theatre or on your own f***ing couch! somehow every move made in the name of jesus is blasphemy. what i really want to know is how Mel Gibson ever PURCHASED the rights to the Passion. I never believed in Hell but there is a big line of folks who seem to want to prove hell's existence by being the next at the gate.

6. It is amusing to me that these people are so insecure that their opinion
of the movie requires vindication by Hollywood - which they claim they don't trust anyway. If they liked the movie they liked the movie. Who gives a flying f--- if it gets an Oscar or not? If I go to a movie and like it and then I read a review that pans it, does my original opinion no longer count? That is nuts.

13. I thought the Passion of the Christ was a great movie.
The atmosphere/cinematography alone was spectacular... you felt like you were there 2000 years ago.

suddenly want their approval?

Answer: !Insecurity!

The Right Wing in this country views Hollywood in the same manner that Hitler views the Jews.
