F911 has just aired on British network television.
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 07:01 PM by Taxloss
It was my first opportunity to see it.

I know I have criticised Michael Moore in the past; I take it all back. I cried; I learned. It's a brilliant, balanced, restrained and moving film. I think Channel Four deserves credit for rushing it through like this.

That's all I have to say.

Edited for typo - doh.

6. I'm sure Sinclair & Fox are working on a deal right now.
You know, in order to present a fair and balanced viewpoint.

Seriously, I would also love to see it aired here. Probably wouldn't change many minds, because those that hate Moore and F911 aren't going to tune in. But I'd love it just to hear the outcry and uproar.

8. Has it not been shown on American television?
Come on! A film like this? We usually get films months behind the USA, and it airs on a free-to-air network BEFORE it is broadcast in the US? I know C4 worked to get it, but sheesh. What are you guys reading over there, Pravda?!

10. It has only aired on PPV stations, not on regular broadcast networks.
Given the right-wing ass-kissing that seems to be more prevalent these days on broadcast networks, I don't have much hope it will ever be aired by them.

13. I noticed that American corporations were happy to advertise in the breaks
of our screening. So would that not happen in the States?

16. So they're just using muscle to keep it off the air?
Or is it pressure groups who have the muscle here? This film has been aired in prime time to the UK. For free. Why not America? Your products were advertised to us in the break.

Well, it's a sick and strange world.

11. "What are you guys reading over there, Pravda?"
Yup, pretty much. The masses are fed Bush-friendly pablum, and little else. I'll be amazed if F9/11 even makes it onto a controversy-friendly premium network like HBO or Showtime.

Sad, sad times we're seeing in the old USA.

12. C4 is airing some far more sensitive stuff this season.
F911 pretty much classifies as "family viewing". Jeez. I was surprised the BBC didn't show it on BBC2, I know they tackled over it. You guys have got to watch your broadcasters, otherwise they'll just be the tools of corporate interests and your government. That's why we have campaigns to protect our broadcasters:

2. Tell us more....
what were your favorite parts?

I don't think I could watch it again now that he is back for four more hellish years.

Maybe I'll indulge when Bush's house of cards starts to fall for real.

5. Me too. I saw it when it came out and I couldn't stand to see it again
right now.

It made me furious but I had hope then.

I think it would just send me back into despair and since I just got out of there, I'm not ready to go back.

14. That was one of the big lessons I learned during this election.
How desperately we need hope and how devastating it is when you lose it.

It reminded me of when Pickles tried to take the hope away from the quadriplegics and paraplegics regarding stem cell research. How cruel.

7. I was sobbing in the first five minutes.
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 06:44 PM by Taxloss
The memory of covering the Gore recount when I was on a desk on a news magazine ... we cried then, I cried when I saw it again and I'm crying now.

ON EDIT: my favourite parts. I don't really have a favourite part. I appreciated the reminders of the uselessness of GWB's pre-911 service. I admired Moore's thoroughness. And I really thought it was classy that he avoided going into the business of 911-pornography, the lingering shots of that day, a trap so many documentaries seem happy to indulge in.

A criticism: It was a little, a little, too long. The end could have been trimmed.

4. I also just watched it
I've seen it before in the U.S...it was interesting to see it on TV, though...wish they would have done the same in the U.S.

17. Good for Channel 4.....there is a site here in the U.S.
run by right wing assholes called Moorewatch that recently spread false propaganda about Michael Moore in regards to a body gaurd he once used. I just signed up and visited thier blog and left the following comments to confuse em a bit.

"Maybe Michael Moore will sue Faux news for slander. They certainly deserve it. Especially after O’Reillys Loffa/sex toy thing. Its terrible that such bad reporting is going on. We’re lucky we didn’t get sued here at MOOREWATCH. Hell who knows it could happen yet. Hopefully the rapture will come and take us all up before that though. When I get to heaven believe me I’ll have my trusty 357 with me in case some madman Republican trys to steal my heavenly existence away from me."

18. Well, that kind of smearing is absent here.
In the UK, we respect the activist and the film-maker. After all, he had a TV series here! You guys in the US might have missed that.

19. no its available on video here in the U.S.
but your right most Americans aren't aware of Micael Moores other good deeds. England also has Greg Palast who is probably the best American investigative reporter (still alive). I like your blog by the way. Great stuff.
