Attention Costco shoppers! What are your favourite items to purchase?
I like to purchase things like cigarettes, liquor, paper goods, tuna fish, laundry soap and bleach, fresh veggies, DVD's, and CD's. Also, I bought tires there a few months ago.

Plus, I buy gasoline which is usually less than at other stations.

And, they have fresh flowers, too!

What about you? What do you like to buy at Costco?

20. Did you read my CostCo shopping list?
The CostCo here (northern 'burbs of Detroit) is the best source of meat, too. Their steaks and chops are the best and reasonably priced. I also stock up on candies like Red Vines - good grab'n'chew while watching a DVD movie.

Also, their plastic tubs of Hummus are yummy. Oh, and cheese! Mozzarella and goat cheese in particular.

Lots of good books marked way down, and CDs too.

Box Splenda packets for a good price.

Bird seed.

Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 12:22 AM by RagingInMiami
I recently bought Photoshop Elements 3 at Costco. I've purchased luggage and a computer travel case as well. Pretty much, my whole office is from Costco.
Then I buy Heineken by the case, Frank's hot sauce, vitamins, advil, cheese, sometimes even clothes. Costco rocks.

32. after you pay the entrance fee have any of you found you are not saving
the money you thought. If you bought the same stuff on sales at the regular grocers, etc., stores, are you really saving? I'm serious. A Costco just opened near me but it was like 40 bucks or something, and I thought, why am I being charged to walk in there?

Okay, I was at a regular grocer yesterday and bought a 12 double roll tp (Angel Soft) at a super price, 4.53. (about 16 cents per single roll, 32 cents double) The gallon of milk was $1.69 also a really super price for the Chicago area. That's why I shopped at that grocer that day, the leader prices were excellent and I needed the stuff. Would Costco prices be better? Could someone here who likes Costco give some prices of some standard things so I could get a beat on these warehouse clubs.

37. The entrance fee is just a once-per-year, though
Not every time you go shopping.

So if you go every week, that's less than a buck a shot.

And i've found Costco to be much cheaper than any grocery store. Sure, certain grocery stores may occasionally have specific items for less when on sale, but consider the time lost scanning ads and running all over town to save 12 cents on a pack of toilet paper.

The only bad part of Costco - or any of the warehouse stores like that - is that the shit comes in such huge containers. I just want a box of cereal - I don't a two pack of 4 pound boxes of cereal. Or a jar of peanut butter, not a two pack of 64 ounce jars. Etc.

but great for when having a party, or buying liquor, or many other things.

39. Absoultely Cheaper....Absolutely!
For instance, the boneless/skinless chicken breasts are $2.99 a pound. They are almost twice that at the supers. They come packaged up in bags of four so I usually use one and put the others in the freezer. Steaks are similarly discounted and I always have some of those in the freezer. Wine that costs $15 costs $8 or $9 at Costco.

The Unscented Laundry soap (liquid) is $11 for 96 loads.

Last night we had Costco roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and fresh tomato soup from the deli, dinner for four under $20 -- cheaper than McDonalds actually.

You are aware right, that the fee is yearly not every time you walk in the door as your post implies, LOL...

41. I save a lot, plus I share my membership
with a friend. You get two cards for one membership. I pay one year, he pays the next-and we're in different states! we've been doing this for eight years.

I really save during the holidays, plus I watch for unadvertised sale prices. I got a set of flannel sheets there last week. Retail, they would be around $80-$100 (judging from my catalogs with similar items), but at Costco they were $40-however, since they were moving them out for the season, they were discounted further at $20. Now I can sleep with the thermostat turned down even more, for more savings...so that more than makes up for the $20 a year I spend on the membership!

Costco is also a very BLUE company; they give 100% of their donations to the Dems, plus they pay their employees well and have great benefits.

Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 02:41 PM by Lex

of what I spend there.

At the end of the year, my 2% cash back always exceeds the cost to renew the membership.

"Executive Membership is our highest level of membership. Executive Members enjoy an annual 2% Reward on most Costco purchases, as well as additional values on member services, such as lower prices on check printing, auto financing, overnight delivery and long-distance phone service; larger Costco Cash card amounts for mortgage, real estate and home equity transactions; one-year free roadside assistance for vehicles covered through the Auto Insurance program; and extra travel benefits."

I've purchased tires there (and had them put on the car there too), purchased a computer there, software, vitamins, used the pharmacy there, purchased gifts for Christmas there, etc.

Plus, it is a good "Blue" store.

47. Costco's meat is at least $1 pound cheaper
I save $2 a bottle on hubby's and my wine. I just bought a pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts for $2.59/lb - my local Publix charges $4.99. I can buy a huge tub of sour cream for less than I pay for a smaller one at Publix, same with cottage cheese. They also have wonderful take and bake meals, chicken pot pie or meatloaf that are delicious and affordable. I upgraded to their Executive membership a few years ago. It costs me $100/year but I get 2% cash back on all my purchases there. I always get back more than $100 so the membership is basically free. I just bought my new computer there last month

Another thing you can't beat are the prices on their clothes. I find great quality tops and shorts there at incredible prices.

The bed is large and much higher quality than those I saw at pet stores and box stores. Comparable ones at pet stores run $80-100. Such a good deal I'm thinking of buying another to keep in my bedroom.

FYI - the bed is for my newly adopted Boxer. He came with the name Spike, but has been formally renamed Senator "Spike" Boxer in honor of the good Senator from California.

Big bags of little carrots, Portabello mushrooms, bottled water, the shrimp that's like Kung Pou (sp), fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, Caesar salad, Cheerios, Margaritaville shrimp, eggs, Abuelitos, and salsa are always on our list. We also did most of our Christmas shopping there, including a nice keyboard for our son.

Last week, my husband wouldn't buy a container of Parmesan cheese because he said it was much smaller in size than the one I bought last month ( and said it was so large we'd never use it before it spoiled ).
When we got home, he looked at the container and admitted it was the same size. It's funny how you get used to gigantic containers.
