Poll question: Auschwitz - Cheney Style:
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 10:40 PM by Bunny
I know we're all sick of talking about Cheney's ice fishing/snow-blowing get-up at the Auschwitz ceremony. I have to admit to some astonishment at what he's wearing - I honestly could see Young George pulling a stunt like this, but I would have thought that Ol' Dick had more sense than that.

So I'm curious about what you think of his clothing choices. There's no real need to comment if you don't want to, I'm just kinda looking for percentages. Thanks!

5. He sticks out like a sore thumb
I suppose it's fitting that one of the architects of Bush's latter-day concentration camps should appear disrespectful at Auschwitz.

19. All that, and also: at Auschwitz, the camp that Shrubbie's family
helped finance and made a lot of money off of.

Deliciously ironic.

Cheney, making untold millions off this war, going to see the place that his boss' grandfather built.

25. politics aside...
Is this not the funniest thing you have ever seen... he must be thinking "damn I am such an idiot"

the funniest thing is he stuck out like a sore thumb, everybody in attendence must be thinking "what a tool"

after the States being a No-show at the world forum the other day, add in this. Nothing but bad PR from the states lately

3. Vice Presidents have been aware of formal protocols --
-- for a long time.

Cheney and his staff knew the occasion and what was called for.

I believe he did this on purpose.

I do not believe a Vice President Edwards, rightfully elected as he was, would have shown up dressed as the Michelin Man.

12. His trip was meant to be "pre-emptive"...since much dialogue about Nazi's
"close" to the WH and Bushco, as well as post-WWII is just beginning to "surface" mainstream. I also understand a major book on U.S. Nazi's is to be released in February. By stopping the upcoming suspicions and 'dialogue' about Nazi's in the U.S. Gov't...by appearing at the Holocaust Memorial...this is typical Rovian spin, to say "See the compassionate Conservative VP who has not one Nazi bone in his very cold body."

Also, ironically...even though it was quite cold in Auschwitz yesterday, it was clearly far "colder" to Cheney...since the last place he'd want to be...was sympathizing with war victims.

I'm just curious how Cheney's "heart" felt yesterday...if it is capable of feeling anything at all.

I watched the Memorial on CSPAN, and it was so moving and depressing. More so, in light of growing human rights violations, and war time torture violations.

13. wow, zann. Thank you for the information --
-- I had no idea about the release next week and hadn't considered it from a Rovian standpoint.

But what you say resonates. Also the whole thing drags down my spirits. Not you -- Cheney.

Appreciate very much your rounding out and filling in on this whole trip.

8. They told him he was going to the ghetto
he got a tad confused....

He missed out on the rapper pants, which is a shame because MC Hammer pants would have hidden the depends nicely.

Also the Jew in me would like to add - he's a fucking asshole.

15. Oh, that was clearly and utterly deliberate, and a total FUCK YOU to
Europe for telling the truth about our war criminal asshole president and refusing to follow in his folly.

No way in hell was this accidental or a faux pas. It was planned, deliberately. In fact, I'm sure that Rove (or someone) and some others actually spent a couple days looking at a wide variety of clothing trying to find just the right get up that would offer the best possible fuck you.

17. The spin is that he was trying to stay warm
but, as another DU poster so eloquently put, he had no trouble with appropriate attire for his little coronation last week.

This was deliberate.

didn't believe in the Holocaust! So maybe he thought it wasn't a real ceremony.

I think this was a big ol' intentional "Fuck Yourself" to Europe and to everything that was being memorialized there.

24. Dick sure likes to say "fuck you" either with words or clothes.
This was a big "FUCK YOU" to the memory of the holocaust suriviors of
Auschwitz. There is no excuse, no justification for this blatant insult. This is sheer arrogance. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

As many of you know, that's no joke: Prescott helped fund those two camps through the Union Bank.
