There's this guy that thinks I'm cute but I am very hesitant to go on a date with him because he is a Republican. Not only a Republican, but he is active in the Log Cabin Republicans. He's a nice guy. Very nice and cute. He's an architecture major. Archetecture majors are always cute.
If you take politics out of the equation, he can actually be intelligent and witty. He is really really cute too!

Am I crazy for not wanting to date this person based only on the fact that he is a member of Log Cabin Republicans?

9. No..
I try not to talk about politics around Rethugs. RW talking points hurt my fragile little ears and I am unable to contain myself when anyone praises *. I can't hear a positive remark about him without making a very long retort.

23. I'm guessing that if you think of the guy as a "Rethug" . . .
The relationship may be rocky -- and brief.

However, life is short anyway, so knock yourself out!

He's obviously delusional, so how happy can you be in the long run?

Sexually it can probably work, though. I'm sure Log Cabin Republicans can screw people as well as other Republicans.

4. No you are not.
Relationships of people with different political views can work, but if both are so passionate about their views that are on opposite sides, you are just setting yourself up for turmoil.

Are you prepared to give up talking about politics for this relationship or are either of you willing to agree to disagree and get on with life. There are alot of issues here.

Nah, I just can't do it. Knowing how much I hate * and how this guy actually voted for him to continue his reign or terror and idiocy.

5. I am not one for advice on dating
but if he seems like a nice enough guy, go for it, and hell you may change him. I think I've managed to convince quite a few people to have similiar views to me by being very vocal in government class. I prefer to date democratic girls but there's girl I like who I think may be a republican but I think she's relatively moderate, and she and I have other interests so I could date her, I won't of course though because I do know she already has a guy, shame but thats life.

12. It's different for gay ppls though.
Considering that the rethug party seems to hate us so very much and do everything they can think of to ensure that we have no rights whatsoever.

I think any gay person who would want to be a Republican must have severe emotional problems.

6. If he voted for the chimp he is vile. If he is a moderate republican
maybe he is viable.

But having study architecture myself, I don't remember too many conservative architects who were any good. Virtually every creative person I know of is a leftist.

8. You want to date a guy who thinks torture is a frat prank,
and is stupid enough to join a party that would rather he stay in the closet?

Why don't you date a Nazi or a Klan member? I hear the Germans look real cute in those SS outfits.

13. You would be sorry,
I am. Live-in girlfriend never mentioned political affiliation before she moved in. Now when I come home, Sean Hannity is on the radio. Quite literally she is on Free Republic while I'm on DU.

I know that sounds minor but then there's the comments about the news she's reading, it turns out she is VERY homophobic, and I get a running commentary. With that political mindset there comes a very twisted inner soul. It might not show on the surface, but it's there. Now I'm left with a dilemma, kick her out,(she has no money) or just try to keep on. Since I'm a softy I'll probably live with it. But it's damn tough.

If you're looking for a meaningless hook-up, yeah, do it. But don't hope for more. Sorry about being preachy, I'm just bummed by it.:(

14. my truthful opinion? I wouldn't date him
He may be a wonderful person in many ways, but judging from what you said about how you feel about * supporters it is not a good start for a relationship. Personally, I would have a hard time respecting anyone, but especially a gay man who supports *. On certain matters which are important some someone, you shouldn't have to compromise right off the bat. Politics are important to you. Ideally, find someone closer to you own views. There are some good ones out there.

16. that's what test drives are for, dear
take him for a spin or two. if lines suit you and there's some power under the hood but the maintenance is more than it's worth, take out a short-term lease. otherwise keep looking.

besides, who knows, sometimes you can switch out a few parts and soupe up the build. some are easy to tinker with. if not, meh, just check the liabilities for cutting the lease early.

(and i think that's all i got right now for extending this metaphor.)

I think this whole thread is disgusting. An abomination. A complete perversion against everything that is good and holy. A sinful, sinful thread!

26. Then why do mods have the sleepy guy icon? Is it a cruel tease?
And no you aren't crazy for not wanting to date this person based only on the fact that he is a member of Log Cabin Republicans. Mixed marriages rarely work.

And he's a member of a group that wants to be associated with bigoted assholes who hate their guts, think they are less than human and are actively working to prevent gay people from having the same civil rights heterosexual people have.

I DO understand being really attracted to a cute guy who is misguided in his beliefs, though. :)

I would rather love an ugly Democrat than a handsome rethug...since they are only good looking on the outside..and want to own you, force you to be like them, hate people like you..if they know who you are...I DO NOT like rethugs!
