Poll question: Battle of the bands: The Stooges vs. The MC5 |
|
Personally, I say the pre-"Raw Power" Stooges, with Ron Asheton on guitar. About as Rock-n-fawking-Roll® as you can get.
"Funhouse" is an all-time CLASSIC.

although today I would wish, we had more MC5s. And I really like, what the later husband of Patty Smith has written, played and done. But during the late sixties, the nihilism of Iggy Pop is unchallanged. To write something like this in the "summer of love": "Well, it's 1969, o.k. all across the U.S.A. another year for me and you another year with nothing to do"
So many years after Baudelaire but 8 years before the Sex Pistols.
And "Gimmie Shelter" (The Rolling Stones) Gimmie Danger (The Stooges)
But after nihilism didn't work and being older, I wish we had more MC'5s.
But I don't care, Dirk

4. Yeah Fred Smith was the sh!t |
|
...and I gotta respect the guys in the '5. My only gripe was the John Sinclair connection, and the hackneyed pseudo-"revolutionary" bullshit on the records-- it really does sound hokey in retrospect. Sinclair was no better than what he sought to replace-- a megalomaniac that wanted to run "the Scene" in Detroit his way, everybody else be damned.
If the Stooges had stuck with him, they would have gone down in flames after their first record.

6. The MC5 were the better band, but The Stooges made better records... |
