Bernstein I discovered later in my life when he started doing a lot with Vienna. That led to my re-examining his NYPO recordings. There's lots of hot stuff there as well.
Bruno Walter is another blind spot for me. I find him totally bland.
BTW - The Moscow Phil under Yuri Simonov played an all-Tchaik concert tonight in Vegas - Capriccio italien, Violin Con (Cho-Liang Lin) & Sym 5. It was spectacular! those Russians play music so differently than US orchestras! I was bowled over. I've heard all of the major orchestras in the world, and I'd put tonight up there with the best ever. The string section was massive in size and sound. And what a sense of legato without losing any detail. Incredible.
