Am I The Only One Who Thought "The Aviator" Sucked??
Scorsese is an assclown, God, that movie!! Besides being a whitewash, it was just not well directed and Cate Blanchett, ay yi yi!!! When I saw all those Oscar noms I was like, THEY'VE GO TO BE KIDDING!

Great perf from Leo but the rest of it, ugh. Overblown, over the top and cheater non-ending...

3. I thought it was a terrific film
but I also like Scorsese better than you do. Goodfellows and Last Temptation of Christ are classics and this one is also a classic.

6. Good For You -- I'm Sure Kate Hepburn Is Rototilling

5. There's always someone
who thinks any movie sucks.

I've heard some even thought "New York Minute" starring Ashley and Mary Kate wasn't the best film last year.

8. Q-U-AR-AN-T-I-N-E, Bad "Rosebud" Takeoff...
And I'm sorry he was not peeing in jars with the fingernails and all that before the hearing and Ava Gardner did not come and fix him up for that....what a crock!!

That was more like 20 years later but they wanted to sort of get in in there -- he acted crazy in other ways at that time but they mixed up all his stuff for effect so that he simultaneously germ-phobic and sleeping with all these women?

Thank you!!! It makes me sick to see THIS is what Oscar seems to be corronating this year, not that it should surprise anybody, remember "Hidden Dragon" whatever movie ZZZZZ and my all time un-fave, Shakespeare in Love??

So many of these Oscar darlings don't hold up even a year or two later -- Beautiful Mind is another one...Aviator was Ron-Howardized like that story was.

Sideways and Hotel Rwanda were way WAY better!!

9. I didn't like Sideways
DULL -- found myself looking at my watch -- had about 5 minutes of good laughs, and other than that -- oh, put me to sleep. I appreciate your comments about Aviator regarding the lack of sequential authenticity, but beyond that, I liked it -- although I agree with others about the Kate portrayal and I didn't care for diCaprio because he looked like a 13 yr old, thought the role was miscast. I also don't care for "historical" films using big name actors other than in the lead -- like Alan Alda -- because I find it distracting, although I thought Alda was excellent. I told hubby -- Aviator was a three hour movie which felt like two, and Sideways was a two hour movie that felt like three, IMHO.

Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 01:59 PM by ikojo
CHUNKS!!! I fidgeted so much through that movie. It was boring and pretentious. I almost whipped out my PDA and started reading articles from my avantgo account, that is how BORING that movie was.

11. I Thought Sideways Was Beautifully Done...
I watched it twice and was totally rivited to the screen both times. The second time I really noticed how excellent the music was -- so much so that you don't even notice it.

Loved loved loved the locations! Kudos to the location scout -- I loved how prison like the Bev Hills house was, that is how they always feel to me, those houses, with the echoing footsteps, I'm always aching to get out of them!

12. Both Aviator And Ray Sucked In The Same Way
Like a blueprint for lazy over the hill directors. Fade to black, fade to mom flashback, and end 30 years before the subject dies with a sentence on the screen in ref to the last 30 years....FADE OUT!

The Ray thing with fade to mom/fade to hands on keyboard YAWN!!! Both these biopix were directed like Lifetime made for TV movies and oddly identical in style.

Kevin Spacey's "Beyond The Sea" was better than both those two...

I did think DiCaprio was perfectly cast, Hughes did have that baby-faced look as a young man and it looks like he lost a lot of weight for the role too...

13. Everyone I know who's seen it said it was pretty mediocre
I haven't met anyone who's said it blew them away, but people did say that Leonardo DiCaprio gave a good performance.

I'd be curious to see it, but it will probably be a rental for me.

14. Worth Seeing For Leo
...but not best director and certainly not best supporting actress, lordy!!

"GOLLLEEE!! I'm flying a plane, yaw....Mr. Hughes there appears to be a large mountain coming, golleee!"

Jeez it was like retarded Kate Hepburn or something...yawww! Everyone who was watching it with us was gigling especially at the early scenes.

I feel quite certain KH would be fuming over this movie!!

16. I Liked Sideways But Also --
If you can find Spain's entry, "The Sea Inside," go go go....shoe in for the Best Foreign, it is also the best movie of this year and the last several years.

Aviator is one of those that it's worth seeing just for the hype around it --- and for DiCaprio, who was brilliant. I'm not saying Aviator is not worth seeing just that it's far from the best film of the year.

19. OMG, Rush Is Pissed At Clint??
I liked it but my screening mates had differing opinions....I thought it was good....Morgan Freeman was excellent & Hillary and Clint also.

I hadn't heard that Rush was in a wad about this. It figures. What an asshole.
