Anything that turns you into a point of consciousness on a four-dimensional merry-go-round that your body-in-the-minute is part of, and makes you able to access your-body-in-a-minute-in-1977 with perfect clarity that makes you think you can actually oscillate between these two points in time and experience them semisimultaneously while ALSO being the presence at the nodes that controls the whirl, is a drug either to be greatly feared, or not to be missed.

A few times with no noticeable effect then the last time, last winter, after having a few beers. It scared the LBJ out of me. I was tingling all over but mostly in my legs and was absolutely sure I was in two places at the same time. Besides the hallway in my house, I was also in front of a store on a sunny day with a red and white striped awning overhead. There were flowers in long wooden troughs, painted green, in front of the store. I wasn't actually hallucinating these things, I just felt sure that's where I was. I was really worried the feeling wouldn't end and that I was going crazy. After about 5 minutes of this, I was fine with no after effect. I don't think I'll ever do that again. Way too scary. Alcohol apparently has a synergistic effect with the stuff because it requires the action of the liver to metabolize it.

Further, anyone with a history of depression or other mental illness should stay the hell away from entheogens.
Go read some of the trip reports at Erowid. That stuff will mess your mind. In my day I've taken LSD and shrooms many times, but I'm scared of Salvia. I won't even try it. Funny, too, because I have some right here. (It was a gift.) I guess I'll throw it away one of these days. I can't think of a single friend who's both interested in that kind of thing and stable enough to handle it.
