26. I always love sleeping while listening to a powerful storm,
I suppose it draws my actual comfort into sharp focus! However it can be a bit of a drag if I know I have to go work outside in that stuff all the next day.

Oh well, life's not perfect....

27. But ice storms don't make any noise.
It rains and then the rain freezes and you don't even know that there was an ice storm until you step outside in the morning and slip and slide on the ice.

30. Hmmmmm, let's see,
first, rain makes noise--whether it turns to ice or not after it has fallen does not change that.

Next, persistent sleet can turn into sheets of ice--you can hera all the little kernels hitting the house. That ice can be kinda funny though, it's all dimpled. If the storm turns into snow partway through you can just never get all the snow off your car--it's buried in those little crenellations so that now matter how much you brush once you start driving it blows over your windshield and frosts it up. Those can be really noisy.

Hell, even snow falling can be noisy--if there is enough wind (and there often is.

15. Even the cat won't go out. Brrrrrr.
We got a light coating of ice from the first part of the ice storm and are waiting for the second part to hit.

By the way, the cat does not go outside if we can help it. We do let her out on a screened porch, which she has declined today.

35. South Carolina midlands
There were a couple of bands of precipitation here with a lull in between. Not really two storms, just a break. The first one was pretty icy; the one hitting us now is rain, but could easily turn to ice. From the weather maps, it looks like some folks didn't get a break.

17. Dear Sirs: I was buried under an ice sheet some 5,000 years ago
and grew after a few millenia to be quite comfortable with my situation.

Let me state in the strongest terms that I strongly object to your decision to remove me from my glacier and display me in a museum. Can I go home now?

Sincerely,
Otzi, the "Ice Man."
Glass box,
Balzano, Italy.

18. My car was covered bumper to bumper with Ice
Trees were weighed down with ice too.. but the roads were good.

I live down in Columbus, Ga and the the storm stopped just north of us. Well did get some left overs however.

I heard that Atlanta was at a stand still for awhile... that's hard to imagine. I was watching The Weather Channel and they showeed one of the HWY's and there were NO cars.

Stay safe up there.

He's one of my favorite people to have been wiped off the "history" books.

BTW this is Michael. My wife, Stephanie, posted about being the Southerner who doesn't care about how well Northerners handle show. She posts under my ID quite a bit...

33. dude, I grew up in the Northeast, now live in Atlanta
and I only have had to deal with this sort of thing like, 2 or 3 times in my life.

I spent more than a half hour getting enough ice off my car to get to the grocery store.

21. South Carolina here....
There is about a quarter inch of ice and snow in my yard right now. Tonight it is forecasted that another quarter inch will fall.

I took my steam cleaner out this morning and wrote my name, along with a note of apology about not being able to resist the temptation, into the snow/ice. Two of my neighbors have commented that I must be rather 'gifted'; I told one how I did this and it was suggested that I add some orange juice for added effect before the president of the homeowners association saw it.

22. Yes, I am in Woodstock, just northwest of Atlanta
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 04:40 PM by RebelOne
Everything is iced over. In fact, the trees over my house are dangerously bent over. In Cherokee County they don't have the equipment to de-ice all the roads, so I don't dare drive. In fact, even if I could drive, I can't get my car doors open. They are iced shut.

My neighbor measured the ice and everything is covered with 3/4 of an inch

And now my dog wants to go for a walk, which means that I will be slipping and sliding down to the field where I take her.

On edit: Could not make it to the field. Kept slipping and sliding on ice. Dog not happy as she was able to walk just fine.

25. Just came in
from planting some cacti and other plants before we dry out here. Sure hope everything grows. The ground was wet and easy to plant things. Now I'm itchy!

It rained this morning but the sky is clearing and the sun is trying to shine. Yes!
