Help, quick question about the Reagan administration
What was the name of the fundie guy Reagan wanted to appoint as sec. of the interior (or something)? He's the one who quoted the bible during his confirmation hearing, and basically said he didn't give a crap about protecting the environment because environmental destruction was one of the signs of the rapture? He was rejected or Regan withdrew him or something. Thanks.

1. James Watt may be who you're thinking of

He actually became Sec of the Interior. He was replaced after he became too controversial even for Reagan. I don't really remember the exact circumstances, but he was pretty outrageous.

2. James Watt
He did serve in the cabinet for a while. I don't remember why he left.

5. This was the comment that killed James Gaius Watt
"We have every mixture you can have. I have a black, a woman, two Jews and a cripple. And we have talent." -- James Watt, describing his staff to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on September 21, 1983
