4. what firewall are you using?
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 09:21 PM by dweller
zonealarm shows the ip in the 'alert and log' list as the source ip. It would be the first 3 numbers xxx.xxx.xxx. (they may have more #'s following the 1st 3 sets, etc.)

edit: reading the other replies, i realize you are perhaps using your windows firewall? why not download zonealarm (free) and run it also, then you'd have the data i described above. Otherwise, someone else will have to provide you with the info about windows xp firewall.

2. You mean..
.. you want to see like a log of attempts to access your machine?

I'm not sure how to do that with the regular WIndows firewall. I know NOrton Personal Firewall shows you everything..

Good question, though, on the standard windows firewall.

5. Is "Norton Personal Firewall" better than "Zone Alarm?" Which is
the most user friendly for the clueless who want a firewall. One is free and the other you have to pay...but if you want to pay...which is best? Easiest...for us clueless.

6. zonealarm gets good refs here from most users
i run sygate also. Both are free.

Can't speak about Norton since i don't use it, but no disappointment with the 2 i listed.
