Just got an interesting e-mail via my Soul Express Website.
For the uninitiated, J.J. Jackson had a huge hit in 1966 called "But It's Alright," which still gets a lot of oldies airplay.

Dear Dean,

I am the son of J.J. Jackson's manager and producer from the 1960s and 1970s. I have always had a warm spot in my heart for J.J. because he was extremely kind to me as a young child. Over the years, I have made abortive efforts to track him down without success. Here is an update for you:

First, the MTV JJ Jackson is a completely different person. Second, I have heard the rumors about J.J. DJing in LA during the late 1970s, but have never been able to verify them through a photo or someone who knew him personally at that time. Last, J.J. always had health problems due to his weight. My father heard back in the mid-90s that he may have died of heart failure a few years earlier. If it is true, it is a great loss.

Thanks for the work you do to make sure that people never forget this great music. If you hear anything new about J.J., please let me know.

All The Best,

Josh Futterman
