Behold! The "No Preaching, please" door plaque! |
|
"You try to be open to all people, but the Jehovah's Witnesses have knocked on your door one too many times. We have "No Smoking" signs, "No Menus" signs--why not a "No Preaching" sign? Keep your soul to yourself with this handy plastic number backed with padded adhesive strips. Why, it may even "prevent dogma attacks," chortles the ad copy. Wherever Madelyn Murray O'Hair is, she's smiling." http://www.rof.com/Plaque_NoPreach.htm

When my boys were younger, they were embarrassed by it..:)
I hear footsteps.... a pause (while they read it) and then more footsteps going away..
If you are selling:
newspapers magazines books cookies candy meat seafood lawn services windows siding tamales religion
Do us both a favor, and trot back down to the sidewalk, turn right or left, and keep going.
Do NOT knock or ring the bell
No one here is interested in the least, in buying anything you are selling.

2. I cannot tell you how funny I find that sign. |

Another effective technique was suggested by Robin Williams: answer the door naked.
"Have you found Jesus?" "No, I haven't. But come in, and we'll have a look!"

Actually talks to the JWs that come to our door. I guess his dad always did too! We get regular copies of the Watchtower...it is actually fairly interesting reading.
One time, back when I was single, I had what looked to be two young Mormon men come to the door. I did not answer the door, not because I did not want to be preached at, but because it was two men, had there been a woman present, I may have at least answered the door (didn't want them to know I was home alone).
