Spears worst for autographs
CORONA, Calif. - Expect to walk away empty-handed if you ask Britney Spears for her autograph. Autograph Collector magazine says Spears is the worst when it comes to signing autographs.

The magazine's publisher tells People magazine that Spears is so bad, collectors call her "Bitchney Sneers."

Other stars who don't like signing autographs include Cameron Diaz, Tobey Maguire, Justin Timberlake and the Olsen twins.

The magazine says Johnny Depp is the celebrity who'll always sign for fans. Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, Mike Myers and Angelina Jolie are also friendly to autograph hounds.

2. If I met a star, I would attempt to treat that person like a human being
and avoid unnecessarily disturbing him or her.

I'm sure it gets very old to have people pulling on you all the time when all you're trying to do is get a sandwich or even worse, use the toilet.

I once was in a sandwich shop with Toni Morrison. I left her alone. I was in an ice cream shop with Meg Ryan. I left her alone.

The level of rudeness in our celebrity obsessed culture is really bad when people get rated on how much rudeness they are willing to tolerate.

6. I'm with you
I get celebrities coming into Tower Records every now and then, and I make it a point to treat them as any other customer.

Very recently I got to ring up Kirk Hammett of Metallica when he bought some stuff in our store. I didn't acknowledge that he was a celebrity, I was courteous to him just as I'm supposed to be courteous to every other customer.

Lars Ulrich used to come into that store regularly when I worked there in the mid-'90s. He could certainly be a nice guy, but he made it clear that he didn't appreciate being bothered by people who recognized him as a celebrity. And he never paid for stuff with a credit card in his name.

3. Is there a lower form of life than an autograph hound?
I can imagine a kid, but jeez, don't you folks have anything better to do? Like maybe going to Star Trek conventions or being in the Creative Anachronism Society?

4. Some folks make a career out of autograph-hounding,
If I were a celeb, that would irritate me; the person coming up to me with a stck of glossy photos to sign.
I never understood the need to get someone's signature as proof that you met them. Isn't a good story enough?

7. It seems the better they are at what they do...
...the more friendly they are, and more appreciative of fans.

8. It's supposed to be about the music, people!
How can you expect an artiste to waste her time with the crass commercialism of fan maintenance?
