Better than watching Shrubby on the telly.

5. Mostly scarves.......
Do you knit? It's so addictive. As much so as this blasted computer.

8. Cool,
scarves are the perfect meditative pieces to work on. In answer to your question: yes and yes!

12. I believe so as well.
In fact, I went out today to the yarn shop and bought quite a bit so that I can make more scarves. I just mailed 2 of them off to my sister. I enjoy doing just straight knitting (now, anyway) so that I don't have to think too much.
Hopefully I'll venture out to try to make an afghan, etc.
Keep in touch.

20. Did you just start a new stash
or add to an existing one with that yarn store run? Yarn multiplies like bunnies, didn't anyone tell you??

28. You're right - the stash is growing..............
I keep it in the closet with high hopes that they will reproduce on their own and I don't have to make more purchases. I'm currently knitting a scarf that my husband says "looks like a chicken"........LOL. With the feathers hanging out, it does.

3. small needles, eh?
I've been knitting 4 hours a day for about 6 weeks. Did 2 sweaters, a shrug, some scarves, and am now finishing a spectacular shawl. All Irish kinda stuff.

Most have been on 10.5+ needles, so it hasn't been too bad.

What makes me crazy and crosseyed is keeping track of where I am. Yeah, that and not really knowing what I am doing....

4. You're a champ!
I've only been knitting scarves. I'm addicted. My friend and I have just started knitting in the past month. I am working on a very easy pattern for a baby blanket, but am bored with that. I have more fun working on scarves with all of the wonderful yarns that are out now.
I would like to do a shawl - just haven't looked at patterns yet.
Besides, I don't trust myself to get into anything really complicated now. I know what you mean about keeping track - I meet some friends at Starbucks for 'knitting sessions' and know that I have to work on only straight knitting while we're talking. There is NO WAY that I can do any kind of pattern then!
Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing.

18. New knitter here, as well
Just starting my first scarf (for my mom...) I did some practice bits and am ok with how even they are coming out, so I'm going to do that for practice, too. I'd love to get to the point where I can make my own sweaters!

22. Yes - but when I'm cruising the yarn shop I overhear ladies
talking about their sweater-making and it sounds like a lot of math to me...........I'm easily intimidated. I guess you just have to really 'gauge' your stitches and I'm not that confident yet. For the scarves, I usually cast on 10 - 15 stitches and then just make it as long as I want. I've been lucky to find a couple of ladies who are great at advising and helping out when I'm stuck.

26. Yeah, I've got a ways to go before sweaters!
Mainly being confident that I can make even stitches! I am ok with the math, it's just learning how to physically do the increases and decreases in stitches, etc, and how to make sure it all matches up... I have a friend who only started about a year ago and just finished a sweater she says she would wear out of the house, LOL. So, it can be done! (eventually...)

I'm becoming a master at the fun yarn scarves, just straight knitting, you know - but am afraid to venture forth. I started on a scarf last evening thats k2 p2 and have to concentrate. Hope it turns out ok.

My mother used to say a-whatever all the time, as in "its a-snowing" or "its a-storming" and stuff like that.

16. Haven't touched yarn for 30 yrs - just bought some today
I knitted and crocheted when I was a kid, but I hated the yarns and colors back then (ugly acrylics).

Friday night I was with friends, and someone brought knitting, and was using yarn with little bits of bright ribbon in it. The next day was a 6-hour meeting at my Meetinghouse, and another member brought the most amazing soft alpaca, and also something called "fizz". She finished a beautiful warm scarf and started a decorative one. Who knew that there were such beautiful yarns out there now!

I've been smoking a lot out of boredom (I'm one of the lucky 1/10 that don't get addicted) at night while watching TV (mooching my SO's smokes), so I thought this would be healthier.

One of the women at work, her partner owns a yarn shop a few blocks from my building, so I went over at lunch and got 3 skeins of "Noro" multicolored yarn and a crochet hook. $29!!!!! Ack!!! But hey, it beats lung cancer...

17. I know ......
That is what got me started, too. I love the scarves with all the fluffy 'stuff' hanging from them so have embarked on making them myself. What fun. I bought over $150+ today.. That should hold me for a bit.
You're right - much, much better for you than smoking.
Keep in touch.

19. One other problem I foresee trading cigs for crocheting
The cat never wanted any of my cigarettes, but the yarn bag wasn't in the house for 20 minutes, and she had already crawled in and started in on one of the skeins.

24. Been knitting/crocheting a while now...
I learned from books and the internet... slowly venturing into hard lace and cable patterns...

It's soooooo addictive :)

Right now, I am doing this shawl for my mom in trinity stitch on 8" needles. It is a fairly easy pattern that looks very pretty and builds up fast, even on 8" needles. But my mom is a big girl so the shawl needs to be quite big.

So far, I'm preferring knitting to crochet, though.

:hi: fellow knitters!

25. I haven't ventured into crocheting. My mother was an outstanding
crocheter/knitter/needlepointer - I should have paid more attention when she was here with us, but alas, it's too late. I find it a special way to 'bond' with her now.
