Ever notice that when Freeps talk about the French being wimps...
They never mention this guy:

For those of you who didn't know: Yes, Andre "The Giant" Roussimoff was born in Grenoble, France in 1946. His distinctive voice was the combination of the stereotypical "giant voice" and a French accent.

I wonder if he ever came across any "Frenchies are all weak wimps" people?

1. Purportedly, Samuel Beckett gave him rides to school.
How bizarre is that for coincidences. It sure is a small world, one of the greatest wrestlers, one of the greatest playwrights in the same car.

2. I hear rumors
Big Show was his kid. So this "Frenchies are wimps" stuff could still result in some amusement.

3. That was just a pro wrestling storyline
Paul "Big Show" Wight is no relation to Andre. they just bear physical resemblences from both having the same affliction.

Incidentally, it was Andre's early death in 1993 that prompted Wight to have surgery to correct his condition to stop his growth so not to meet the same end as the big man.

20. I don't follow
wrestling close enough to always successfully seperate the story line from reality. That's one of the fun things about wrestling ... the surrealism of it all. Sorta like watching the Bush administration in operation ... seperating truth from storyline can be difficult and requires one's full attention. The Bush Admin is, however, considerably less fun.

4. It was the French who gave us our Statue of Liberty.
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 01:27 AM by Old Crusoe
Next they should ship us a statue of Andre the Giant.

I think the Gulf Coast just off Mobile, Alabama would be a good spot.

Some Olympics ago now I watched skier Jean-Claude Killy rocket and zag down huge mountains at breakneck speeds.

I dare Bill O'Reilly to call someone like that a pussy.

11. Yeah, you would. Well, then, we'll have to put it on land --
-- possibly atop Mt. Rushmore.

It would serve to punish South Dakotans for voting for that nitwit John Thune AND for Bush in the presidential race, too.

But you get a bonus point for knowing what his birth name was.

Without whom we might arguably be a member of the British Commonwealth today.

19. What really pisses them off..
is that the French refuse to suck up to the Chimp (ie "Amurca"), thus denying that the US is the rightful leader of the free world, bastion of freedom etc. Would that our "leader" in the UK had enough courage to do the same.
