kazza lite users
granted, I don't download very many mpgs anymore, but when I do , it's too sample the album before I buy ...

ok, that said

when I use Kazza-lite to download mp3's, most of the files that I download will not play ... well, they play, but you can't hear them.

Anyone else experience this? Is this something that the record companies are doing?

just curious

1. What do you get when you play it?
Plays for like, two seconds?

I even transfered the file to my other computer - just silence ... but the "bar" is moving on the player as if the file is being played

3. It's common -- the record companies do it
They flood the P2P networks with songs but usually silence, or sometimes fuzz out, most of the song.

While I don't agree that downloading songs is theft, I also don't see anything wrong with the companies doing what they do. It's like Russia jamming the Voice of America through the 1970s -- people eventually found a way around it.

The solution, of course, is to make music downloading subscriptions cheap (or free-but-ad-supported) and out-of-print DLs legal. The problem is 100% business model failure.

5. I've been having problems too
Its harder to find songs than it used to be, I guess because fewer people are using it.
Sometimes I'll download a song but it will only be the first 30 seconds or so of the song repeated several times over. Other times, its only noise. I assumed the record companies were trying to screw it up too, but I don't know.

I have gotten several files that where the first 30 seconds are repeated as well.....

10. I have also noticed that
I found that the files that had the repeat in them all had a similar thing in their file names (that cannot be altered). It is USM with a bunch of numbers after it.

7. some artists and/or labels are
leaking broken files or purposely incorrect songs or edited one's as entire albums. I don't use kazaa lite anymore, but i know that was starting to happen a good year ago.

8. Kazaa
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 04:27 AM by necso
(actually the file-sharing network behind Kazaa) was (and probably still is) the main place where the RIAA types were hunting for people to jam up. There were also great problems with deliberately corrupted files. Many users seem to just DL stuff and not check it out. One could DL many different copies of a song that were corrupted somehow (the techniques vary). (Or so I have read.)

And as far as I know, RIAA is still going after folks who share (protected stuff) as opposed to just DLing. Put some freely available songs in your share folder, and find yourself another network... If you still wish to do that sort of thing.

11. I used to use Kazaa and had that problem. Many files were corrupt.
I couldn't be bothered with them anymore.
