Bus Driver barely escapes deer attack - punches herself to safety

"(Woodbury-AP, Jan. 31, 2005 7:44 AM) _ A Naugatuck woman is recovering from injuries after fighting off a deer that fell into the windshield of a school transit van.

Judy Boisert's encounter last week occurred while she was driving in Woodbury. She drives handicapped and was on Route 64 in Woodbury going toward Quassapaug Lake when she felt a thump and heard the van's windshield crash in.

The road has narrow curves, with ledges on both sides, and Boisvert says she thinks the deer may have somehow fallen off the cliff on the side of the road.

Using her right hand, she maneuvered the van to the side of the narrow road while using her left hand to fight off the deer and keep it from coming inside the van."
