This is Seattle!
There is not supposed to be a large brilliantly shining orb in the sky! Especially just before I'm heading for bed. I was promised rain today! Grrrrrr.

What the hell is wrong with the weather this winter? Very little rain and too much of the aforementioned orb.

1. My neighbor kids are playing in the yard
Except for that cold snap we had early in January, this winter has been amazingly mild. Weird.

2. Yeah, I was going to mention that too
but it's the orb that's killing me today. I was looking forward to restful sleep.

I know that no one outside of Seattle is going to take this seriously (most people don't realize that Seattle has drought weather every summer), but we were six inches behind on rain as of the end of the year and we haven't been making much headway this month either so unless something else weird happens, we are in for a bitch of a drought this summer.

4. It's so weird - all of the ski areas are closed
That's the worst, when we have no snowpack in the mountains. :( You're right, we are headed for a drought unless several feet of snow falls in February and March, which is unlikely.

3. Oregon is in the same situation
I love the rain because I know it snows in the mountains. We are going to be faced with a drought this summer, too. Maybe the month of February will bring lots of rain to the valleys and snow in the mountains. <crosses fingers>

I feel guilty enjoying the sunshine right now.

6. Well, if it makes you feel better
I'm making up for you. I'm not at all happy to have the orb out today. I was promised rain.

5. What is that large ball of fire in the sky there.
I was afraid at first, but suddenly I recognize it.

To be honest, I am not in the Pacific Northwest today. I live between two cities. I live north of New York, but I fly to Portland twice a month for weeklong stays and have a little place there. I am up in Seattle a few dozen times a year too.

I usually first see the burning disk in the sky for the first time in April (other than that strange week in February every year when it gets nice). This year has been dry and warm. I hope we get some rain. I can't handle another dry summer.
