Meet "Esuvee" - The Hairy Safety Mascot Of SUV's

<snip>

Picture your SUV as a hairy, growling beast -- something of a cross between a buffalo and something from the Star Wars movies.

A new safety campaign launched Monday by governments from all 50 states wants you to picture the big vehicles as a creature known as Esuvee.

The monster is meant to remind people that driving a sport utility vehicle as if it were an ordinary passenger car can be fatal, according to a media release.

In 2000, rollover crashes killed 9,873 occupants of passenger cars and light trucks, almost one-third of the total deaths of occupants of these types of vehicles. Despite these disturbing figures, more than four in 10 Americans think they are safer in an SUV than in a regular car, according to a new consumer survey.

The $27 million, year-long effort is funded through a settlement with Ford Motor Co. according to a news release from the Iowa attorney general's office.

The program consists of events and initiatives designed to reduce SUV rollovers, particularly among younger male drivers who have the highest incidence of such accidents.

1. Huh?
"The monster is meant to remind people that driving a sport utility vehicle as if it were an ordinary passenger car can be fatal..."

So we should drive them like they were top-heavy, ill-engineered pieces of Yak shit, meant only to falsely bolster our insecurities about the size of our penises?

Well....No SHIT!

Considering that 51 out of every 100 Americans think they're safer with Bush as President.....

2. Funny, since I heard them re-defined on a recent radio commercial as
"Safety Utility Vehicles".

3. I'm calling this now-this message will be completely misread
I'm not bagging on SUV drivers in particular just the "ten second attention span public". They will see this MONSTER and hear that they shouldn't drive their SUV like it is a normal car and think that means that they should be more aggressive.

I'm telling you I can feel this one from a mile away.

6. What do you call 9,873 dead SUV occupants?
A good start.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

13. -
I apologize. It was either you or alhedges and I went with you. I am sorry I shouldn't have done it at all and if I was going to do it the gentlemanly thing to do would be to not pick on you.

I am sorry.

I thought that took a lot of guts to do what you did. The gentlemanly thing to do here would be to stop typing no matter how MARVELOUSLY complimentary I might want to be so I will.

9. That thing is almost as ugly as the 1996 Olympic mascot, Izzy
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 02:13 PM by RubyDuby in GA

That godawful thing was everywhere...looks like a blue sperm farting stars.....

On edit: this isn't the picture that was everywhere, including City of Atlanta Police cars. The other pics (which I couldn't find one) more accurately portrayed the above mentioned activity.
