Why Do Movies Go To DVD So Fast These Days? |
|
It seems like 2 or 3 months after a movie is released in theatres you can buy it on DVD! What's with that? Man, I remember when you used to have to wait like 9 months before a movie came on VHS or DVD. Damn this crazy information age we live in. Damn it blazes! *shakes fist at the sky*

and the short attention span of the public.
Honestly, I have no problem with it.

And, you can buy them on DVD within a day or two of release. Not saying I do that, just know that you can...
But, in answer to your question - if a movie is still fresh on people's minds, it will cost them less the market the DVD than if they waited 6-8-10-12 months.
Besides, at least in the Hartford, CT area, they no longer have 2nd run theaters. Once it's gone out of your multi-plex, it's gone for good. Years back, it would be in the multi-plex and then move on to the small 2nd run theater.

Superman released to VHS the same day it released to the theaters. Nobody's ever beat that record!

9. i saw a special on trends that developed in 2004 |
|
and they did a segment on the fact that the DVD market is now considered the primary market in many cases. There is now more money to be made in rentals and sales than in the original theatrical release.
