going on in America today. The bug planet sends an asteroid to attack Earth. (9/11) Then we wend troops to kill the attackers. (At least that is what Bush says) It even includes torture by the good guys, the earthlings. (The "brain bug" scene at the end where they are jamming the spikey metal thing into the bug)
Am I taking these current events too far in my head? Yes, probably!

7. Heinlein wrote it in the 50's |
|
he was in the Navy during WW2 and actually present during the D-day invasion. There are many parallels between the bug war and WW2, but its not too farfetched to see parallels in current wars also.
Great book - he uses it more as a vehicle for presenting his ideas about government, and how only those who have volunteered to defend their society should have the right to vote or govern.

13. I paid close attention when I first watched this. |
|
As I remember, it becomes clear that the conflict between the Bugs and the Humans was started by the Humans, and was entirely voluntary. I think this movie is a very close parallel to the kind of thinking going on in the U.S. right now. When I saw the movie, I was looking for this to start happening in the "real world". Unfortunately, that's what's up now.
