I keep on getting the mail for another apartment and when I confronted her over it, she said "it's not my problem". At this point, I just became livid and said "Yes, you put the mail in the box. Since my mail to my address. is not in my box, it is your problem. It should not be that difficult to match the box and apartment number". I walked away, but this is very irritating. I am complaining to the post office about this persons incompitence.

as a former mail carrier, my first thought is, do you have your name on your box? The name on the box is more important than the number.

How does one put the name on the box when the back side (where the mail carrier 'delivers mail' through... is locked such that when it's open, there door is swung away from the opening where he'd 'deliver mail' through.
Probably not the best wording above, but the best I've got.
signed,
me <victim of frequent erroneous delivery, but haven't escalated anything to 'confrontation' just yet>

6. The names are not on the boxes for security reasons... |

I have a feeling it could be that this woman is a freeper. I am on alot of progressive mailing lists and recieve alot of mail which identifies me as a Democrat, and when the mail carrier changed, I stopped recieving these things. I do know her name and I will complain to the postmaster about this.

except on the back side, it is only one door that the mail carrier opens to stuff them all... many boxes, one door
so simple... so difficult

10. whatever your mailbox |
|
looks like (in a multi-drop situation), there is an opening with a bottom, sides, and top that is nearest the mail carrier when she/he is distributing mail. Your name should go on the bottom of the box at the point nearest the mail carrier, facing in such a way that she/he can easily read it.
Why is that concept difficult for anyone?

... I've done that thrice... the surface is some sort of 'non-stick' or something.
so the NAME TAGS keep slipping away.

I always put misdirected mail back in my box. I don't care if it's for next door or not. It's not my job to deliver the mail.

12. Yes never argue with your carrier... |
|
How would you like them to throw away all your mail? They might..Its scary how much important stuff they carry. In Chicago there has been problems.
No, the best way to handle this is to complain to the postmaster. I am sorry for you. The same thing happens to us. We are the last on the block so it happens.
Good luck!

15. When you live in Chicago.... |
|
Poor mail service is part of the deal. When our next door neighbor Anna confronted our mail carrier about having once again received the incorrect mail, he replied "Oh I'm sorry, I was drunk" and he was dead serious.
We're also known for having carriers who leave the mail in the trunks of their cars for months, then get caught destroying the old mail in bonfires. One Chicago carrier was hording the mail in his closet while he went to the bar during his shift. It took them months to figure it out. It's astonishing how poor our mail service can be.
Hope things improve, but I wouldn't hold your breath. ;-)

16. In the US Gov't approved mailboxes |
|
there should be a spot to insert the name and # on the inside, so the postal carrier can see whose it is when they open the bank of boxes.
I agree with the above poster(s) though. call the postmaster for your zip code. She'll find out it IS her problem. She's sorting it at the PO, carrying it and sticking in the boxes after all.
Be really nice when you complain to the boss. Goes a long way.
