1. Unfair question
The two are so different that you really can't ask to compare the two. I love both of them equally.

It's just a throw away promotional stunt for the brand new DU Bob Dylan group.

6. I totally agree with you
My first thought in reading the question was how can you compare the two. They worked in two totally different genres and had their glory days in two totally different eras. The only thing that is similiar is that they were icons of their eras.

2. Dylan's genius and Frank's voice
Gotta go with substance over style (Dylan) but I could listen to hours of Frank. Thank gawd I don't have to decide.

5. I really don't understand the popularity of Frank Sinatra
Honest. I know he's not a bad singer, and had some mobster coolness. But what else? Did he write any songs, play any instruments? I just don't get it, but if anyone wants to explain, feel free...

Maybe it's just his type of music that dosen't do it for me.

ps don't beat me up on this!

10. Nah that's Okay My sister hates both Frank
and Dylan. I love them both and I think she's nuts.

For me it all depends on what king of mood I'm in I suppose tho usually it's Dylan.

13. The instrument he played was his voice.
He was an entertainer, singer, actor.

15. Sinatra was the epitome of cool
He had a great voice and a hell of an attitude. He also supported Kennedy and stood up for Sammy Davis Jr. when he became the blunt of racism.

Didn't he refuse to play the Sands because Sammy wasn't allowed to stay there?

26. I've read that story somewhere
Sinatra brought Sammy Davis Jr. to play in Vegas' casinos at a time when blacks were not allowed in casinos, setting the stage for other black performers and eventually black customers to be allowed in casinos.

8. Neither.
I choose anyone who can write meaningful lyrics and can carry a tune. John Lennon? John Mellencamp? Neil Young?

OK, you busted me--Neil Young can't carry a tune, either!

Based entirely on velvety tones from before we were born, tho, I'd have to vote Dean Martin.

21. I'm a bit biased though
When I was growing up my dad played nothing but Sinatra. I love it in a nostalgic, I-love-my-dad kind of way, but I just can't take it that seriously. I still know most of the Capitol Years box set off by heart.

30. Easily Dylan for me
I never like Frank. Nothing about him interests me a bit. I don't like his voice, his acting, his "coolness", his anything. I could never understand what he was that appealed to anyone. I'm not saying he sucked, I'm just saying he didn't seem like anything special.
Want a crooner? Go with Dean, Bing or Mario.

Frank was a great singer and Dylan is a great songwriter. I like them both.

I just had a thought. It's too late now but it wouldn't have been interesting if Sinatra did a album of Dylan songs. Just a idea.
