WOW! "Garden State" was a great movie.
We just watched it yesterday On Demand.

I had seen several of the ads for this movie and had heard about it here on DU but I was flabbergasted by how good it was.

Great script (surprises and revelations throughout ) Great cast and great acting (Natalie Portman and the grave digger for sure) and great movie making (the shot in the bathroom with the automatic sinks foretold of great visuals and no wasted moments on film-without being too cluttered-the Knight scene was hilarious).

This was definitely the best movie I have seen this year. I am shocked that it didn't get more Oscar/Award nods last year.

Zach Braff (of the "Scrubs" TV show)not only was outstanding in his role as Andrew Largeman but he wrote and directed it too??? I hadn't heard that anywhere and was shocked when it appeared as the first credit at the end of the movie.

I think I am going to go pick up the soundtrack today.

THAT was a GOOD movie.

1. Recommended highly by this DU'er.
I posted a recommendation for Garden State last week and I'm glad you checked it out. My wife has not seen it yet so I will rent it again.
P.S. Underpants, are you from Richmond?

3. Yip
Well we live here. Neither my wife nor I are FROM Richmond originally-we came for the cheap VCU degree and that is where we met.

2. I've been procrastinating about seeing it.................
but now, under recommendation of "underpants", I'll definitely give it a home screening.

Underpants gives it "two skid-marks up"! ;)

4. Hopefully there will be no spoilers on this thread
Trust me everyone's story unfolds throughout the movie with BIG surprises near the end.

The "Knight scene" ties into the "MRI scene" and both are hilarious.

Zach Braff has a great future in front of him. My wife said it reminded her of a Cusack 80's movie, I think it was a bit of a revisiting of "The Graduate" PLASTICS!!!

6. I Look for Great Things to Come from Zach Braff
Aside from the slightly 'too-perfect' ending, I was greatly pleased with 'Garden State.'

7. Watch it again ... oh and the soundtrack is AWESOME !!
I took even more away from it on the second viewing.
It's probably going to rank as one of my all-time faves.

9. I like the remake of 'Such Great Heights'
... it was originally a techno-pop song by The Postal Service <?> a few years back ... but the simple way it's done on this disk fits so perfectly with the movie.

The Colin Hay song, and the one they played during the end credits ("Home") are also really touching.

Actually, I love the ENTIRE disk. :loveya:

10. Braff was the executive music producer too (WOW!)

The writer, director, and star of this acclaimed movie, Braff also served as the executive music producer, compiling an excellent mix of contemporary indie-rock, with a few older selections added for good measure.

13. I was numb for a week.
I'm highly suggestable that way.

I liked the movie, but didn't love it. He did manage to paint quirky characters w/o resorting to huge, not-so-subliminal labels pointing at the characters reading "quirky".

14. I thought it sucked. A lot of hype over a very, VERY small
movie. I was really looking forward to it as many DUers had been so enthusiastic. Plus, I lived in NJ for 6 years. Maybe I was looking for the wrong things, but it had no effect on me either way. It was just a waste of 90 minutes, IMO.

There's always a dissenting opinion on DU.
