Why do people HAVE to like kids???? |
|
I can tolerate kids for the most part. I love my niece---she's cute at 17 months! I treat kids like I treat anyone else. I don't hold them to be anymore special than adults----they are people, just smaller.
I think a lot of people have disliked kids in the past but were fearful to bring it up. Now, many feel like that they don't have to like them or follow the script of doing so.
I wonder how many women had children due to societal norms "back in the olden days" when they really didn't want them/like them? My guess it was more than you think.

1. You don't HAVE to do anything except be polite |
|
Or did you spring fully-formed from the forehead of your father?

I'm always polite---who says I'm not? My parents brought me up well, thank you.

11. I didn't say that you were impolite |
|
in your post or anywhere else for that matter. I stated my opinion - the only thing humans are obligated to do to/at/for each other is be polite. In the context of this thread, that includes not automatically placing every kid into the "Things I dislike category." Unless something miraculous happened, you were a kid once too.

14. So I was once a kid, so what? |
|
That's doesn't make me like kids anymore than I like adults. I never get that argument.

But I am getting most annoyed by people of both sides who think they automatically are "right"- that is, those who dislike kids think the world revolves around them, and those who have kids think the world revolves around them and their kids. Both are wrong. Society functions to accommodate both within reason.

I mean, it's just common sense- which is something that a LOT of people, judging from these ridiculous threads, seem to lack.

18. report her to management |
|
Most movie theaters now have policies that R movies will not let in kids after 6- which is a perfectly reasonable compromise, IMHO.

|
Well, actually, I just hate OTHER people's kids. They allow them to be loud, disgusting, and obnoxious in public places, and it's really freaking annoying. You try to be gracious, but they scream like goddamn monkeys, and that just tears it. :grr:

We are suppoes to find children cute because little children are vunerable. Humans are social animals. While parents bear direct responsibility for a child's survival, in some less industrial cultures, it really does take a village to raise a child. All humans are instinctively attracted to babies. Markerters have used this fact to create cute characters that have baby like faces to sell products.

no big deal... not really a matter of disliking them
I think some people automatically assume you don't like kids of you want to have your own.

I have a lot of respect for the people that recognize that they don't want to have children and are honest about it. I don't really see anything wrong with that.
It is much better to flat out not have the children than to have children and be a bad parent, a not there parent, etc. etc. There are a lot of bad parents out there.
