Address changes - the information age.
We moved in October and changed our address with the folks we do business with. I have noticed in the last couple of months that solicitations from credit card companies and banks and other businesses that they all have my correct address. These are folks I would not have contacted about an address change as I either had old accounts with them or they were companies I had never done business with. I find it kinda creepy that they obviously had access to the information I provided my businesses with so that they had my correct address. I knew that credit card companies would base their rates on your payment history to other companies but I assumed that was coming from the credit bureau stats or something. I know escrow companies sell the information about your move to banks and businesses because I keep getting all this stuff about my new house. What I found surprising was this bank that I have tried to stop doing business with for about five years. I have about a quarter in that account. A few years ago I sent a certified letter and various other things telling them to close my account. They have sent me a statement on that quarter for about five years. I have all those statements in a box and am planning to ship it to the bank president (Amsouth) and ask him if he can close it and let him see how much money they have wasted sending me statements. They had my new address and I know for sure I did not contact them. Also a couple of credit card companies that I have used in the past but not for a long time (unsure if the account is open) also updated their records and I know I did not contact them. Yesterday I got a flier from a cooking institute my middle school daughter had attended last year. They had her correct address (addressed to her) and we did not contact them. I guess there is no way of hiding any business activity or personal information from anybody anymore.
