What's up with bushwatch, buzzflash, APJ, and bartcop?
bushwatch's headlines are still a day behind, and bartcop has started adding the current day's date to yesterday's post. i know bart's radio gig (financed by his blog readers) takes time, but not updating the blog is getting really annoying. even buzzflash has begun posting fewer news story links. and let's not even talk about american politics journal. they haven't been updating news stories adequately for a long time, and pundit pap isn't posted for almost a day; also, PP used to cover all of the sunday shows.

what's up?

are left-leaning sites (other than DU) getting burned out? i hope not.

1. and then there is MWO's all too frequent vacations...
Well, unless they become subscription sites, there is probably not much to be done.... Oh, yeah Salon is a subscription site and rarely updated on weekends (but I still like Salon, especially after they have run recent series on treasongate)....

Perhaps the issue is that we are so much more consumed with current world and political events than the average Joe?

9. Check 'em out again... Yes, Salon does the occasional RW wacko
article... But I still think that they more than balance to the left with the likes of Conason and others...

10. "Smokin' Joe" Conason rules!
I think Salon is worth a subscription, just like DU.

2. Updating
Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 08:06 AM by RatTerrier
Not many sites update on the weekends, since it is assumed that traffic decreases.

Just like newspapers put out their smallest editions on Saturdays. Much of the big Sunday papers are printed earlier in the week (except for breaking news and sports). Talk radio is in reruns almost all weekend except for shows about pets, real estate, and car repair. The cable news networks likewise.

Hmmm, anybody else not surprised Rush made his announcement on a Friday?

3. i buy the sunday baltimore sun on saturday
also, i'm talking about those sites not updating during the week. bart will post on a tuesday and then add wednesday's date the next day, without adding any content.

mwo's vacation schedule is frustrating, too. i need my horse fix (no, rush, this is not about drugs!) every day!

you're right about friday. the rush friday crap will make it to sunday talk shows, though.

4. My first clicks *were* MWO,
bartcop, Salon, but I've found DU Breaking News to be much more up to date.

I don't want to be seen as being critical of MWO, BC, etc. but I get the impression that they're run by one person who does most of the work and without much financial involvement, more of a hobby than a job. Maybe the site ops should solicit reports from others in a style and vein compatible with their sites, like correspondants in corp. media. Become editors and part time contributors, expand the creative, journalistic energy availability.

Salon has slipped a bit, they used to update the wire stories outside of business hours and more than once or twice on weekends. I've heard they're having financial problems (go subscribe to Premium, folks!).

I got lazy, depended on just a few sites that were hot and had inspired site ops. I can't say that I wouldn't be worn and frazzled after keeping a similar site on the web and timely for as long as MWO, bartcop... have.

5. Two different folks run Buzz and MWO
Mark runs Buzz and MWO is still anonomous...

It's very, very hard to run a daily blog... Ask anybody who's done it and they'll say it's big time tough to do... Me included...

6. Bartcop has carpal tunnel syndrome. His doctor told him...
to cut back to three issues a week, and he did.

8. DailyHowler is also planning to take a break from which
Bob Somerby may not return.

WHERE’S OUR TRANSCRIPT? As we prepare to give it a rest, we ask Terry Gross: Where’s our transcript?
http://dailyhowler.com/dh101003.shtml

These sites have done our country such a wonderful service (speaking truth to power) but I can believe they'd need a break.
