Married thirty years ago today... |
|
We actually did our celebration dinner over the weekend but when I looked back over the album today, it hit me like a ton of bricks....
Where did 30 years go?
How did we manage to stay together this long? We're complete opposites....
What have I learned? What's the secret? (assuming, of course, there is a secret...)
Does this make me (or her) wiser?
Don't know...I'll be pondering these things all day...
Any other March Anniversaries here?

We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary on March 22.
Those are all good questions. I know all of our friends wonder the same about us :-).
Meanwhile, and :toast: to you both!

I'm amazed at how my "bride" looks so much as she did when we were first married.....It's almost "Dorian Grey" like....
I'll try to post a pic later this afternoon......

13. Ours will be celebrated on... |
|
St Patrick's day March 17th...will be our 33rd and I feel exactly like you about our time together. I found out last week that I have lung cancer, and I cannot think of anyone, other than her, to care for me. I will really treasure my remaining time with her.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer, but I do know exactly what you're talking about. As you might know I had a heart attack and triple by-pass surgery in December and my wife was the most attentive and caring person I had ever known during that ordeal....I joke with her a lot now about keeping me on my diet...call her a "food Nazi" from time-to-time, but there is SOMETHING THERE that goes beyond description about how the relationship works...it's a strange, strange mystery.
March 17, St Patrick's day is also my birthday.....so I'll think about you and your 33rd at the same time.
I wish you the best and hope there is still hope for recovery from the lung cancer. In the meantime, enjoy each other's company.

I married an opposite too; he's a Republican, of all things (though he voted for Clinton and I don't think he's ever voted for anyone named Bush).
Of course in other ways we are perfectly suited for one another. It's been over 13 years, and I don't think there's a secret, other than being willing to tough out the bad times and always work as a team.

I can't imagine how we stayed together. We're opposites as well. It takes patience and the ability to just tuned things out sometimes (works for me) for the greater good.
Congratulations to you!!!

From one person who has been married that long to another, I will share the secret to a long, successful marriage:
Success in marriage is simply finding someone who is willing to put up with your shit, and still love you.
Pretty simple in words, hard to do in life!
Many more years together for you both!

35. Congratulations to you both! 30 years is nothing to sneeze at, |
|
IMHO! When you start out, hopefully there is respect for each other. This is the basis of true love. My husband and I are very different people (he's shy and quiet and intellectual, and I'm social and outgoing and people-oriented), and we have learned from each other. He's gotten a lot less shy and I've learned to be more thoughtful and intellectual during our years together. We've both gotten very dependent on each other, which is wonderful, but scary. We will celebrate 40 years this June!
