Do you ever grind your own beans? |
|
If so, have you ever ground them too much? Or ground too many?

1. Honestly, I don't think I'd know the difference |
|
I just dump 'em in the Braun and press the button for several seconds.

The only way I drink it. I have an electric grinder-it measures the exact amount out and grinds it up to the right consistancy.

5. I always grind my own beans, |
|
I don't recall ever having ground them too finely or having ground too many. Too many?! Is this possible?

8. Yes, if I grind too many for the number of scoops I need. |
|
Then I put the leftover ground coffee in a baggie and use it next time.
I don't have a measuring thing like these other people, that must be my problem.

Have the perfect grinder. Set the grind texture and amount, and it comes out perfect every time.
We used to have a Braun, where you measured the beans and held the grind button, but the one we've had for a couple of years has a hopper to store beans on top, and the grounds go int a hopper on the bottom. Perfect.

A basic Braun works. I got a kitchen aid one, which is better but there are no dials to set. You just grind. The more you do it you'll get the feel for it. It's not brain surgery. If you're off a bit it doesn't matter.

though i have the same waking dream as the bag fills up, watching the beans in 'the funnel' not seeming to go down in proportion, that the bag spills over and its all like, "dumb ass dumped ground coffee beans on isle 5 AGAIN!!!"

no big deal if you grind too much. Just keep them for the next day. They are still a lot fresher than if you bought them at the supermarket. If you want to be particular, keep the extra grounds in an airtight container. I usually just leave mine in the grinder. Grinding too finely would depend on what kind of brewing system you use. If you use a filter, it doesn't matter. A finer grind will make stronger coffee. If you use French press, it does matter, but I can't tolerate all the mess involved with a French press anyway.

17. Yes, I have a coffee maker that is pre set for 7:00 p.m. It then |
|
grinds the beans (only fair trade beans, mind you) and pushes them into the filter - the coffee maker then comes up the stairs and gently taps me on the shoulder to wake me for the beginning of a new day...HEY! HEY! WAKE UP! Am I boring you? Is this post not up to your standards? :P

I have a bag where I put the extra stuff when I grind too much.
But I do grind my own coffee, though usually it's espresso.
Now I am all self-conscious about posting boring things...

15 seconds for dark roasts, 20 for light, and espresso up to 30, just for fineness.
