music & relationships

In a relationship, do you feel that similar musical taste is an important component in establishing a common language?

1. Yes

I really don't think I could stand a relationship with someone who saw more merit to Mariah Carey than Peter Gabriel. I enjoy a wide variety of music, a bit of this and that, but if someone else's main musical fare consisted of fluff, I just couldn't go for that.

on edit: wow I sound stuck up..LOL.

2. Oh, I thought it was going to be a joke like, "what is a musician without
a girlfriend? - Homeless." :D

3. That depends on the individuals...as for myself it's...
.. probably, at least, 50% of a factor in the relationship to me.
I'd take a plain-woman Jazz-Lover over a Gorgeous country-rock woman any day....

4. Similar, but not identical
I love it when a guy I like introduces me to music I've never heard before, but that he's pretty darned sure I'm going to like.

It's as much fun to share my music with him. :)

5. Only the appreciation of music is an important component, imho.
Musical tastes often seem to inform one another. What musical tastes are we contrasting here? Are they polar opposites? :hi:

6. Definitely
When the s.o. and I hooked up, we found out quickly that we liked the same type of music (mine tends to run a tad louder). When we moved in together, we found out that there was practically no overlap in our CD collections. That part was weird, but there's really not anything that one of us loves and the other one hates.

I have to say, though, it's really neat to hear Marilyn Manson blaring out of the jazz maniac's car from time to time. ;)
