17. Of that list I'd have to go with Chris Rock
But Jon Stewart has made me laugh much more in the last 5 years.

Also Patton Oswald is a very funny comedian, he is very underrated. His recent Comedy Central special was hilarious.

"Calm down hippies, I'm taking you to Mordor then we're going right back to the shire."

6. agreed, bill hicks
i wish he was alive today.
it is funny how so much of his political jokes are still applicable today. he was doing material involving Bush Sr. and the first iraq war, you can listen to it now and it seems eerily up to date.

i miss bill hicks.

9. It's kinda scary.
I was watching his "Bill Hicks Live" DVD this weekend and I swear to God if it weren't for him mentioning the year 1991 I could have imagined that he was talking about current events.

I almost died when he said that.

. . . wonderful ripoffs of Gilbert & Sullivan
. . . brilliant monologs between his arias
. . . a deep comic wickedness that has informed my style of humor from the first time I heard him nearly 45 years ago.

29. More SW lines.....
I used to live in a house by the freeway. When I went anywhere, I had to be going 65 MPH by the end of my driveway.

I turned my air conditioner the other way around, and it got cold out. The weatherman said, "I don't understand it. It was supposed to be 80 degrees today," and I said "Oops."

Last night I fell asleep in a satellite dish. My dreams were broadcast all over the world.

And even more: http://www.meer.net/~mtoy/steven_wright.html

"I dropped spot remover on my dog and now he's gone"

"I accidentally put my car key in the front door of my house and it started up! So i took it for a drive and parked in the median of a freeway. I went out on the front porch and yelled at everyone for driving in my front yard"

Why did Ronald McDonald sleep with his sister?

Because his judgment was impaired from so many years of eating junk food.

In which state did my wife first sleep with the dentinst to whom she is now engaged?

I don't know, but when I see her in court this week, Alaska.

He's found that sweet spot of comedy--not as sterile as Bill Cosby, but not as vulgar as George Carlin (not that I don't think Carlin is funny--I do.)

but near the end of his act, he does a bit about women not washing, um, a certain part. Then he just started screaming, "Why don't women wash their *sses?!? Why don't women wash their *sses?!?" and then walked off stage.

Weird.
