Why doesn't The History Channel have any programs about history? |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 09:36 PM by Borgnine
Right now they're airing a special on "the Bible code." What the hell?

2. Cuz maybe we'd learn from our mistakes? Last week they had a |
|
thing on sex and the sex trade through history. The invention of the vibrator and what role oil cloth played with men who kept their boots on.

3. How many times are they gonna show that thing? |
|
I swear, it's on every month. Most of the time, that channel is too dumbed down, especially prime time.

6. Yeah, I think that's it. |
|
To see anything good or educational, you have to catch it an odd hour. The primetime stuff is usually ridiculous.

4. I was watching a show about Wake Island earlier so they |
|
do run shows on history. You just ran in to their "speculation" type of programming which they run a couple times a week.

9. Another excellent one I recall |
|
was about a month ago. They had one called the "Swastika and the Samurai" it was all about the alliance between Germany and Japan and the various exchanges, trade and planning that went on between the two.

I'm a historian and I never watch the history channel. It rarely has anything worthwhile.

13. My SO calls it the Nazi Channel |
|
Not that they actually ARE Nazis, but if you just turn it on at random it seems like it's all WWII, all the time. Like they're trying to show the war in real time or something.
I know it's fascinating with cool military hardware for the war geeks and there's a lot of nifty footage, but damn...other things happened in "history" too. Lots of other things.

15. There's a ton of interesting stuff |
|
But, yeah, I happened to run into this tonight, and just said: 'bullshit,' and changed the channel. Yeah, the Bible predicted Napoleon and the lunar landing... Sure. :eyes:
But there is a ton of interesting stuff. They have a few specials about the Kennedys that they run from time to time (of course they ran all of them around mid-November). I recently saw a two-hour special on the Lincoln assassination. They had a three-hour special on Alexander a few months ago that was much, much better than the movie. And, yeah, they have a TON of WW2 stuff, but that shouldn't be surprising, since it's one of the first significant events in our history that has a large amount of video footage.

...the Bible Code predicts where WMDs will be found in Iraq.
Looks like somebody forgot to update this thing.
