Gotta gloat

I'm a totally thrilled HippieMom at the moment.
HippieKid (will be 14 in June) just called to let me know that she's signed up for a summer camp and wants to pursue a new sport next fall.

And that sport is ........ HOCKEY !!!!!!

I come from a family where Grandpa Z - the old Bohemian immigrant - felt it was his duty to teach us all to skate as soon as we could walk. Unfortunately, women's hockey didn't exist 30 years ago when I was a kid, so my brothers got to play and I got to watch.

Now, HippieKid's gonna carry on the family tradition.

I am so psyched I can hardly sit still !

6. She's traditionally played defense in soccer and b-ball

....so I'm thinking she's got the basic mindset already.
But she's fast and has an incredible arm, so I can see her doing some shooting/scoring too.

3. F***ING COOL!

I used to figure skate (yeah, yeah I apologize) but whenever I'd see a girl in hockey skates wearing a jersey zipping around the rink, I'd envy them. No sparkly outfits and hokey music for them -- no, they had the guts to play in THE BIG SHOW with the guys! Right on, HippieKid!

My daughter ice skates and she plays lacrosse - I'll bet she could play hockey if she wanted to.
