Pointless factiod of the day
Today is the reason that the hunchback of Notre Dame is called Quasimodo.

In the old (pre-'60s) liturgy of the R.C. Church the introit at Mass for the first Sunday after Easter (today) began Quasi modo geniti infantes, alleluja (Like as the young children, alleluia), and thus is known as Quasi Modo Sunday (as well as Domenica in Albis and Low Sunday). A young baby was (according to the legend) discovered in the porch of Notre Dame Cathedral, and the clergy decided to name him after the day as Quasimodo.

Not that anybody needed to know that...

1. Well, I appreciated it
I'm interested in the origins of words and phrases. And that is a cool factoid to know.

2. I thought it was because Victor Hugo chose that name.
No?

5. Interesting bit of trivia - but can I say that I hate the word "factoid"?
An android is something human-like; so a 'factoid' is 'fact-like'??
Something is either a fact or it isn't; facts don't come in sizes.

Can we help kill this silly 'word'? Probably not. I should give up now; it's probably well on its way to the OED. :sigh:

We now return this thread to its prior state. :)

6. I did not know that
Nothing that enriches our knowledge is pointless so consider yourself flamed for saying that. ;-)
