I'm Getting Gray Hairs
This is not supposed to happen. I'm only 26 years old. You're supposed to start going gray when you're in your 40s, aren't you?

I've counted 12 hairs so far, on both sides (nothing on top).

This is a disaster.

My father still has a lot of his hair left, and he's 55. Its all gray though.

But his two brothers both went bald around the age of 30.

I'm so scared. :scared:

5. I got my first grey hairs at 19.
Now, at 27, I have a slight yet noticeable amount of grey (but then, greying early runs in the family).

6. I'm 26 and I have precisely one gray hair on my head
I hate seeing it but I don't want to highlight my whole head of hair because of one little gray. I plucked it once and it grew back. :P

8. I got gray hairs when I was 28
but I think that was brought on by stress. I'm a chick so I dye my hair anyway. If you're a guy and I assume you are since you mentioned dad, uncles and balding I'd say don't worry about it. I think gray hair is sexy especially when it's in that salt and pepper stage. There's always just for men stuff though. Ever see that commerical with Keith Hernandez? "No play for Mr. Gray." It's a bit of an exageration.

12. Well, I'm a chick and I stopped dying my hair.
I'm going gray and I'm proud of it. I earned every damn one of those gray hairs! :)

20. I didn't mean to imply that chicks can't go au naturel
It's just less of a social stigma to dye if you are a chick is all. I'm 33 and I'm not ready to do it yet. I'm blonde so any roots (darker blonde and gray) just make my hair look dirty. If you're all gray then more power to you!

9. Grow up
Steve Martin went gray early, at like 22 or something. Lowland gorillas aren't considered alpha level until they become silverbacks.

I'm 35 and I have gray chest hair and a stray scalp hair or two. Consider gray hair a right of passage, like pubes.

13. I wouldn't dye my hair
I think that's dumb. Women dye their hair, not men. My uncles, though, wore wigs for like, 20 years. One still does, the other gave it up, but honestly looked better with the wig.

My dad tried dying his hair a few times, but gave it up. Now he just dyes my mom's hair. He calls himself 'Mr. Sammy's Hair Salon' and does my mom in the bathroom.

Does meaning dyes her hair. Eww. Bad thoughts.

17. Nothing to say that men can't dye their hair
Mine went red for a year a little while ago; don't bother with the stupid 'Just for men' rubbish either.

It's actually good fun, though sitting with this purple gloup dropping onto the newspaper you're trying to read is a boring wait.

23. men dye their hair all right, don't be fooled
If you see a man, dark hair, say, age 38, and there's no grey, silver, or white, only his hairdresser knows for sure...but he dyes.

If your dad does bad dye jobs on his own hair, then he shouldn't be dying your mom's hair either. If he can do a good job, he should get his confidence back and fix his own hair if he wishes. It just isn't that hard. His problem may be that he has a LOT of coarse grey hair which resists color. He should condition well and be sure to choose a color that is labeled for covering gray that is more than 50 percent of the hair.

Maybe get your first dye job at the salon if you're really that stressed but me, if I had only 12 grey hairs, I would try a wash-out color for my first experiment. When you see how well it works, you can graduate to permanent color. You have so little grey, you can use almost any color, even the cheap stuff, and have good results.

Never shampoo before coloring your hair, and don't shampoo again until at least 24 hours later.

It's easy. Maybe only women color their hair for fun, but believe me it is easy enough to be fun, and men are doing it. They just don't talk about doing it. You see all those boring brown "hair-colored" colors being sold? We women are doing the fun colors. It is men buying those to match their natural shade.

18. I had a couple of grey hairs at sixteen
but I'm 48 now and my hair is mostly all black with a few stray greys in the crown near the original greys.

I wouldn't worry about it. They do say that a lot of coffee drinking can bring on greying, I heard that, but I'm not really sure.

Now mid 40's all grey- not sure when it fully turned.
I'd rather have all my hair of any color then be bald

21. do you have dark hair -- it starts earlier for brunettes
Sorry. I'm a blonde so indeed no grey hair until the 40s but the revenge of the brunette is that your skin holds up longer. Brunettes do very often start getting a little gray in the late 20s or early 30s. More people use hair color than you realize.
