Is that new Battlestar Galactica show worth watching?
Seems like most of the SciFi Channel's original stuff is crap of the purest ray serene. 'Attack of the Swarming Rubber Fake-Ass Space Spiders' etc. But I'm a big fan of Edward James Olmos (Mr. Justice Mendoza), and seeing him in the cast made me wonder. Is it any good?

1. I would say it's the BEST show on tv right now.
I cannot think of another I like better.

9. Law and Order and third would be Scrubs.
BSG has a very complex storyline, rich characters, both good and bad. You will have to catch it from the beginning to get the gist of the story. I remember the feeling of dread, knowing something bad was going to happen.

3. Yes very.
The season is over though. Scifi Friday is one of the better blocs of programming on TV. SG-1, Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica. These are first rate television programs not made for TV movies with no budgets. =)

4. Co Produced with the BBC
It is co produced with the BBC. Nice size budget so no Swarming Rubber Fake-Ass Space Spiders and great acting and story line. Best SciFi on today

If they remake Buck Rogers, however, I'm going to freak out.

"Bee-dee-bee-dee-bee-dee, Hey Buck!"

Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 04:53 PM by VelmaD
'cause I bought my momma the entire Buck Rogers series on dvd last christmas. :)

I have to say, nearly every guy our age I know says that Erin Grey helped jump-start them into puberty. But it was an equal opportunity show - there were lots of guys in tight pants too. :)

P.S. You're a geek. But that's ok 'cause I am too. Somewhere in my momma's attic I probably still have old Battlestar Galactica action figures.

19. You're only as old as you act
Which means Will and I both probably haven't "aged" much since the original Battlestar Galactica was one. ;)

6. It's full of good special effects but cardboard mannequins as characters.
It's up to you. Some like it, I could care less either way.

I'd rather see sci-fi air the new "Dr Who", but they think what they have is good enough. Whatever.

7. Holy cow, Will.
Jesus, yes. But it sucks if you have missed the other episodes. If you rent the pilot miniseries from last year (you can do so at netflix, but I bet other rental stores have it) and watch that (I think it is 4 1-hour episodes), you will be hooked. It is outstanding.

18. The new miniseries is better than old-sk00l pilot. Yet the opposite is
true for the actual tv series! The old one is better, makes better use of the charcaters and does a better job of mixing up future lingo with modern day vernacular (the new one just spits it out and it's aggrevating.)

Never mind the new Starbuck, who is an utter JOKE.

A pity; the new miniseries kicked arse compared to the 1978 movie that felt rather more like a tv pilot plus first week's episode melded.

14. I haven't really watched it
But some of the situations and casting have kinda negated it for me, so I can't really tell you. It's miles and miles away from the original series, I can say that much. Personally, I'd rather watch the two Stargates. I think it's pretty much up to the individual to make the decision on whether they like it or not.

In some ways, I think right now is kind of slowing down in original concepts, and a lot more of those fricking reality shows are making TV very difficult to watch. At first they were fun, but now they're just plain anti-climactic and ridiculous.

Best thing to come along in a long long time on SciFi.

I almost didn't tune in at all, but I caught the two-parter finale. This show is nothing like the original, and that's a very good thing, IMO.

20. absolutely brilliant show....
...they're rerunning the series starting tonight. i'd totally get the miniseries first though. it's one of the few series where missing an ep really does leave you a bit in the dark.

great cast. GREAT writing. great special effects. best show on TV.

and starbuck is HOT.

23. Definitely
This is not the typical SciFi Channel fare of late. It is awesome. The season finale blew me away. If this show weren't based on a cheesy 70s show, I think it would be getting tons more viewership. I know I thought "They're redoing THAT show?" But, aside from the name and the basic premise, there are few similarities between the two.

I have to agree there.

Particularly the one scene where Starbuck walked in on Baltar, while he was um, being indiscrete with his imaginary girlfriend...

:D

25. Extremely
It's literally the best SF I've ever seen on TV.

The long-term plot line is compelling. The characters are flawed, but believable. Taken as a whole, it's dark, yet hopeful.

Well worth the time.
